There are a lot of people who find garbage useless. But other people make good use of garbage by making shoes out of it, homes, etc.

Absolutely! I think it's our ability for such ingenuity that makes us a superior species.

I hear that they are now experimenting with making sidewalks out of crushed rubber tires... As a runner, I think this would be a fantastic thing. I also live near an area where they've made large hills and grassy mountains from buried garbage dumps... Even though these are real garbage dumps - they change the landscape and are very beautiful!

Aside from the idiocy of people like "pooptanic", there are many Americans who are able to make things out of garbage and waste (wouldn't "pooptanic" be appalled at the ingredients in his hot dogs?).

More and more of the paper we use today comes from recycled paper instead of virgin trees.
Playgrounds and sidewalks can be made from old discarded tires (there's a place in Harlan, Indiana that's been doing it for years, but now it's suddenly being introduced as a revolutionary new process).
Durable carpeting is made from recycled 2-liter soda pop bottles.
Asphalt is one of the world's MOST recycled products!

I believe the technology exists to actually make a slurry from human waste, coffee grounds, and other garbage which could be used for streets and highways that would never deteriorate (as does cement and asphalt). The only reason it hasn't been developed is because construction companies, cement contractors, and asphalt pavers don't WANT a long-lasting highway. They want roads and streets that require continuous re-patching, rebuilding, and repaving.

A lot of furniture and other products are made from recycled wood, plastic, and other things our disposable society wastes. But the day might come from we'll be forced to REturn, REuse, and REcycle more and more materials. Unfortunately, the U.S. government won't take a PROactive stance on environmental issues; the government will only REact once it becomes a crisis.

So, "pooptantic", you just go on wasting away, ignoring the delicate ecological balance between man, plants, and animals necessary for our mutual survival on this Earth.

Meanwhile, "pooptanic" - I've got a suggestion: why don't you send me ALL your money and let me squander it for you. I'll promise to waste it as quickly and as needlessly as I can, just as you waste Earth's human resources as quickly and needlessly as you do. Someday even a neanderthal like you, "pooptanic", might have children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will have children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who eventually will be scourged with the results of how those of us in the "pooptanic" generation wasted and neglected Earth's fragile environment. And they will look back and ask, "What was 'pooptanic' thinking? Why didn't he have the foresight and selflessness to concern himself with the future of his own descendants?" Nice goin', buddy! -RKO-

Yes. And I also think that the time will come when we use all those dumps as mines to reclaim metals and other products which were thrown away to be recycled into new products.

I've told my students for as long as I've been teaching that if they want to get rich, they should come up with a new way to use newspaper or process it into new materials for use. It's very nearly a free resource with almost an unlimited supply.

Recycling is a good way to go, as long as what you are recycling is safe.

Sometimes, recycling parts & experimenting can lead to new inventions/discoveries.

With the existing garbage, yes! But as of in the future, it should not be encourage. We should be aware of the non-biodegradable waste to save us all.
