So I come home thursday from work and find out my dad brought my cat and her 2 kittens to the shelter to be put up for adoption. He also signed the papers to have them euthanized. It was too late thurs for me to go up there because the shelter had already closed. I went to the shelter the next day~and as early as I could to get them back but was told they had already been put to sleep!

There was nothing wrong with my cat or her kittens. My dad doesn't understand why I'm still pissed!

I took great care of them. I had her for almost 2 years. He's not allergic to cats either.

This is something he did without notice and there were people who would've taken the kittens in when they were ready to leave the mom.

Oh my gosh...I am so sorry for you! What a horrible, insensitive thing for you dad to have done. I wouldn't know where to begin to really help you feel better, but I wish I could come give you a big hug. Your father sounds like a heartless man. Can your mom speak with him about this? I am a huge cat-lover and I cannot even imagine how somebody who supposedly loves you could do such a cruel thing.

Wish I could meet you so you could cry on my shoulder. (I'm a middle-aged mom of two and I can't understand this at all. )

How old are you? I am sorry to hear about what your dad did. He obviously didn't want you to get the cats back or he would not have had them euthanized, or instructed people at the shelter to tell you that they were. Did your dad give you a chance to find a home for the new kittens? It sounds like he tolerated the cat but the cat's kittens put him over the edge. It was a mean spirited way for him to deal with the problem and showed no regard for your love of the cat.
You have the right to be hurt on the loss of your cat and her kittens. I have to wonder if there were warnings you didn't heed since you live at home. Kittens are adorable and hard to give up; but it would have been a kindness to have had the cat spayed. What communication if any, was there about the situation? The bottom line is that you live in your father's house... you should be more hurt than pissed by your father's actions.

You have every right to be upset with your Dad, especially if this had not been discussed before. Unfortunetely, shelters have the right to euthanize owner surrenders as soon as they come into the shelter, so the damage has been done. IF the shelter had an answering machine, it might have helped to leave a message after they were closed telling them you would pick up the cats the following day, but they may have already been euthanized. If there was a problem between you and your father about these cats, you should have tried to work something out with him, but if he did it without notice of any kind, all I can offer you is my sympathy. I know it won't bring your cats back, but if you can work something out with your dad, there are SO many cats that need loving homes and will be euthanized too at some point. It won't bring your precious pets back, but it may help ease the pain knowing you are giving another cat a loving, caring home. I'm so sorry!

Jackie,
I have some trouble believing that a shelter would put healthy kittens down so quickly, without giving them a chance to get adopted. I wonder if they told you that they had been euthanized because they didn't want those cats to go back to your home, considering what your father did.
Kittens are usually easy to find homes for. The Mom might be more of a problem. But they wouldn't put down a mother cat who was feeding kittens. I'll give you some advice. GO to the shelter if you can and take a look. I just have a feeling about this...

yeah you have a right to be upset. i would NEVER be able to forgive someone for that. even if you had done something wrong, there is no excuse to use that as a punishment. he's responsible for the deaths of healthy animals, as well as braking your heart. if that was me i'd be moving out straight away.

its unusual for kittens to be put to sleep so fast so go to the shelter and see if you can get some more info like what your dad told them.

your dad is a horrible person and these people always get whats coming to them. you moving out and not looking at him as your hero anymore is a pretty good start. god, i'm so angry for you. he's so far beyond out of order.

i hope you get over this and move on. lots of love xxxx

If you get anymore pets, have them spayed and neutered or adopt one that is. Masybe he was not wanting three cats and too cheap to get all of them fixed.
I would really not suggest getting any more pets.
He is kinda a jerk though.

I was wondering the same thing. they may have said that hte cats were put down so they would not have you there asking for them back. They should not have given them back anyway, because your dad would have been really mad!!! They also do not go handing back unspayed cats that already had a litter.

What the hell is wrong with that heartless bastard? He is a murderer!!! If they could have been given away there is something seriously wrong with him. If that happened to me I would probably never get over it. If my husband did that to our cats I would leave. Animals are a part of the family. That's like your dad taking your bro or sis and having them murdered. I am so sorry for you. I am going to be upset over this all day now.

YES!!! you still have the right to be pissed, mad, sad...about your cat and the kittens...you loved them and now they are gone for no good reason. If you weren't looking after them,,,then maybe I could understand a little bit, but sound like you were. Sorry for you.

Of course you have the right to be angry! The bigger question is unasked though: why did your father do that? If he was doing this to punish you, maybe it's time to find a place of your own. If he doesn't understand why you are 'pissed', maybe it's simply time to learn to talk about feelings with your father. He may be totally clueless about what a pet means to a person.
