After losing 80 lbs, I am anti-diets. I have probably tried everything under the sun, and one day I decided to stop. Instead of focusing on calorie counting, I would try to make healither food and snack choices. At the same time, I didn't kick myself for having some ice cream or a piece of cake - I just didn't have the whole cake, you know? Eating in moderation was one of the hardest things I had to learn how to do, but it was one of my biggest and best lifestyle changes.
In my experience, completely limiting your diet (no carbs, no sweets, etc) will only make you crave those foods more. I mean, do you really want to never have a piece of cake again? Probably not. And do you want to live the rest of your life counting calories? Probably not.
Forcing yourself to be active... whether it be the gym, a walk around the block, parking your car farther away. Anything helps. I always dreaded going to the gym (I actually still do), but after I forced myself to work out for a 1/2 hour... I would feel so good about myself. I always keep that in mind when I don't want to go.
Also, remember that it takes as much time to take off the weight as it took to put on. Try setting short term goals. Instead of saying, "I want to lose 100lbs," say, "I will go to the gym three times this week," - and commit to it. It's not as overwhelming as thinking, "How am I going to lose 100lbs??" and setting small goals often will lead you to the larger goal faster than you think.
Good luck!!

The one and true way is diet and exercise. You did not get surgery to gain the weight, you ate. I have lost a total of 50 pounds (weight I had collectively gained with my pregnancies) You need to exercise because if you don't change your habits you will gain it back.. even with surgery. You said you don't want to hear people say diet and exercise but that is the only way.... Surgery is cheating... Work at it.. give yourself something to be proud of.
When I did it, (and it is an ongoing thing.. once you lose the weight you have to continue working at it) I joined a womens only gym. I started by going for just 10 minutes a day, now I am up to an hour on my short day and an hour and a half on my long day. I lost over 9 inches in my first month... its very possible.. you just have to start slow.

About 10 years ago, I lost 85 lbs with diet and exercise...then in the next 5 years, I gained back that much and more. I had my Rouen-Y proceedure Aug. 10, 2004, that's almost 2years ago. I've lost about 110 lbs. the first year and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. It greatly improved my health.
Those who tell you "OH...don't do it"...really don't have any idea what a successful bariatric surgery can do to help an obese person. If you had a heart problem, they wouldn't dare tell you that having a cardiac bypass would kill you. This is not an easy answer, nor is it the "lazy way out" most folks believe it is. Those who have complications or gain back alot of weight, have not followed their doctors orders. This is a tool to help you.
Anyway, if you would like to know more about my experience or have any questions, please email me at: mc39576@gmail.com.
I'll be more than happy to correspond with you through all of this. God bless.

Well whenever i would go to a resteraunt i would order from those *Points* menu's. Basically just like Jared, i ate subway and worked my way by joining football. Okay i didn't really lose 100 lbs but i lost 78 :D
Well if your giving yourself a shot then here is one important thing that no one on a diet seems to never ever do. Eat 5 small servings a day, not 3 normal servings but 5 small servings. Just get out and do whatever for atleast 30mins to an hour, and if you want to drink soda, make sure it's diet. Also eat lots of fruits and vegies.
If you want fastfoods then go to Subway ( the commercial don't lie)
Well i hope this little tip here helps you out and good luck!

I stopped drinking all soda and fruit juice and began drinking lots of water instead and skim milk. Also I ate a lot of raw veges and fruits such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and oranges, apples, bananas, plums, peaches and nectarines. Also I stopped having bacon and eggs for breakfast and ate bran cereals and oatmeal. I bought and ate no ice cream, but did eat ricotta and cottage cheese. Eating peanut butter and ricotta cheese on bagels was filling and made me feel good too. Combining this regimen with gardening, yard work and walking made me lose weight at the rate of 2 or 3 lbs per week. After 4 mos, I started fitting back into old clothes, could get up and down from a chair easily, my feet stopped hurting, I could think more clearly and have a lot more energy. Also it's a lot easier to get in and out of the car now.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

I didn't have 100 pounds to lose.... but weight has been an issue for me my entire life.
What really has made a difference for me is really looking at not "what" I'm eating... but "why" I'm eating.
The "why" doesn't go away even when you're skinny.
I'd encourage you to read two life-changing books:
When Food Is Love and Feeding the Hungry Heart... both by Geneen Roth.
They're poignant and simple and true.
Good luck to you!!

I lost 40 pounds through diet and excercise. I'm now in the bottom 20% for body fat.
People think there's amagic formula, but there isn't. You already know what to eat and what not to eat, but here are some guidelines.
Don't drink sodas or other sweetened drinks.
Don't snack between meals.
Don't eat fried foods.
Don't eat garbage like chips, fries, candy, or deserts.
Don't substitute milk for the sweetened drinks you give up. Drink water or unsweetened tea only.
Don't eat high calorie meals like hamburgers, bacon, sausage. Eat only lean meats, vegetables, and fruits.
Avoid bread products, but particularly white breads.
Avoid all prepackaged foods. They are loaded with sugar and fat to make them taste good.
Don't go back for seconds.
Don't fill your plate either.
Use a smaller plate.
