No, the Zionist movement (literally, 'return to Zion' the homeland) started in the 1800's, with many thousands of Jews going to historical Israel. There have been Jews there for thousands of years, (this is 'the promised land' in Exodus). So there were many Jews and non-Jews there by the 1940's. After WWII, when Hitler killed as many as 6 million Jews, the U.N. thought it fitting to give this harassed people a homeland. Britain was looking to get out of Palestine anyway, for a number of reasons (including Jewish terrorism), so when the U.N. split it up, the state of Israel was born with 8% of Palestine being given to them, a tiny fraction. The day after Britain left, 5 Arab nations attacked Israel, and miraculously, Israel won. Because they won the war, they got more territory, and they turmoil hasn't ended since.
That is a brief introduction.

It was fulfillment of Bible prophecy that Israel would rise up and become a nation once again - it is still not all the land that will eventually be theirs by God's ordaining - which is why we see the continual conflict and which is why Scripture cautions that if we are to support a side, it had better be the side that will grant Israel more freedoms and the expansion of the land they are entitled too. It was also at the time a means of what to do with a large populous of people who had become refugees and had filled the quotas of the world's various countries who were willing to take them in - but for the Jews and for Christians alike, it was seen as a fulfillment of the time that God would allow the nation Israel to begin to regain her power.

Where else could we go? It was right after the Holocaust, countries were turning away Jews left and right, and if they went back to their old homes, they could be killed. So the survivors went to the promised land and fought so they'd have a place that would ensure that what happened to them would never happen again.
Prior to WWII, British officials did promise Jews Israel. In 1947, a two state proposal was presented. The Jews accepted, the Arabs refused. In 1948, the British withdrew, Israel's independence was declared, the several Arab armies attacked. Israel *earned* its independence. Not just on the battlefield, they had built schools, hospitals, museums, theatres all over Israel. They farmed and cultivated the land, mostly in peace with their Arab neighbors.

I'm not sure what "historical" time you refer to -- the partition via the Balfour declaration and white paper date back to 1917 and modern political zionsim dates to the 1860's. As to that certain spot, the british controlled the area and according to eye witness accounts, the land was only sparsely populated. So the heritage and religious based link which drove the political zionists to opt for the middle east instead of Uganda was not done with any eye towards displacing a native population, but in fact, buying land in an area considered inhospitable.

Because of the cynical duplicity of the Christian leaders of victorious allied nations (and their successors, today), after World War II. They viewed the restoration of Israel as their Christian duty, in order to begin setting up the necessary conditions for the final battle between good and evil (Armageddon), and the end of the world. Part of this process requires the rebuilding of the temple on the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem, the regathering of all the Jewish people... then god's destruction of the temple and the total annihilation of all the Jews who do not accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

In other words, they (and their successors) have been 'helping' the Jews as 'friends'... all the while they are eagerly anticipating their ultimate destruction.

They were offerred land in Argentina, Kenya but they wanted that land. Strangely, the Zionist movement, as it was called, was not particularly religious and had large numbers of secularists. Some Zionist were happy to go anywhere, others insisted on the land where the Palestinians were already living. Eventually the sympathy of the holocaust and their general mistreatment led to America giving them 56% of the land, which they later expanded through war. A strange situation to say the least, but given America's penchant for uprooting indigenous people its understandable i guess. Also, its not in fact true that the Zionist miraculously defeated the Arab armies, it was a force of 27,00 Arabs against 40,000 Zionists

I think it had more to do with the fact that God gave them that particular land in the bible. It also says they'd return to Israel, which they have, and at some time, will rebuild the temple, as strange as that may seem considering the Dome of the Rock is there now. But then, who woulda thought before 1948 they'd actually return to Israel?

Israel is an odd country in the Middle East and will never find peace there, the best solution is to give the Jews the state of Texas to establish their dream land and live in peace under the tender care of their loving American friends. This is more than sufficient to solve most of the violence in the world.

Actually it was Lord Rothschild from Great Britain that had a huge hand in giving Israel back their land. The British govt aided Jews, wo were the victims of near-extermination in WW2 in getting their homeland restored. The boundaries for Israel are described in the Bible

You obviously have little knowledge of ancient history.
The land of Israel was given to Abraham and finally inhabited by the Hebrew people after the great Exodus from Egypt.
It is their land, always has been, always will be, and that's not by a decree of the United Nations but by GOD himself.
