I'm all for a change, my Mum remained the same for years, she kept it grey, and she looked older than she was for ages, then one day she decided to grow it, and put a nice blond on it, she now looks younger than she did before. She now buys clothes that are fashionable and makes the most of herself!
I personally go to the hairdressers every 8 weeks for my colour.
I would recommend visiting a salon, I know it can be expensive but it's well worth it, and why not do something for yourself?
In the salon you can ask what will suit you and flick through styles and colours! You will come out feeling like a new women. Take a chance!

It depends on whether you have naturally wavy hair or straight hair and how short you would like it to be? Perming or colouring is a good change if you don't want to ammend the length, if not, you could also opt to layer the side for a more tapered look.

Ask your daughter to accompany you to a hair saloon and decide together. Then both of you go shopping for a new outfit to go with the new style and then a late dinner. Good luck.

if your hair is past the middle of your shoulder plades get it cut and get your hair layered with angles as well. it's very popular and trendy! since your hair is almost black i don't think you should get highlights. with your hair layered you can wear it down or if you want it out of your face you can put it in a low ponytail (at neck or shoulder height)

i've recently changed my hair cut from shoulder length to taper short in the back and spiked at te top, from brown to blonde streaks, to entirely blonde, and then added a dark cherry rinse, and got so many compliments, and even my kids, and my teen-age nieces want to hang out with me, and their friends, and I LOVE IT! They LOVE IT! GO FOR IT. You can always grow it and dye it back!

why don't you pick a chestnut with Blondie's highlights or blonde whatever you choose what you want and not relied on other people to choose for you. and I'm a teen myself and i think it going to take a while so why don't you go to the mall and just hang out together.
Good luck!

Hmm, maybe you could cut about 1-2 inches off your hair, and get it layered....then you could do differnt styles with it.
i wouldnt suggest side swept bangs if ur over 40 :)
but, it would look good if you are "young"
good luck :)
Oh, and at any age, regular bangs would look cute :)
