The mastiff bloodlines have the most aggressive attitude. The mastiff breed has been around since man began keeping written words.
I know that Romans had them when they were a great empire.
They have been used for protection of people and livestock, they were used for hunting big game, and I am sure they were used for fighting each other for (stupid) men's enjoyment.
From the mastiff we have bulldogs, and my favorite mastiff breed the Rottweiler, there are many other breeds that come from the mastiff.
I have witnessed the guard aspect of the Rottweiler, however I do not condone ruthless or fighting in my dogs (or anywhere for that matter).
For the people who get off on fighting dogs may you experience first hand the devastating effects that these kinds of animals produce.

Fila Brasileiro, from Brazil, originally bred to track down run away slaves. They are still bred for aggressive tendencies(most breeds are not anymore) and judges in shows are very wary of the breed. They are near impossible to rehome after 2 years because they bond so tight to their families.
Tosa Inu, from Japan, bred for fighting, guard and war dogs. The breeders are striving for a more predictable family dog, and are making great strides, but they are still very protective, and bond very close to the owners.
Cuacasian Ovtcharka, from Russia, bred for guarding and livestock protection. Very protective, similar to a Pyrenees in looks and temperament, but much more aggressive. They bond with their families, and protect them like they would a herd of livestock.

i would have to agree with sheila, and she said it well with that last paragraph!!!
I've seen a Fila turn on it's own owner!!! I believe they are from Brazil, but I could be wrong.
your question is a good one and i'm sure there are owners of some of these mastiff breeds that would be willing to defend their breed ;)

i hope you are not looking for a 'bully breed' for yourself :(
