I've tried lining a cup with (microwaveable) clingfilm and breaking the egg into it and making a little parcel with it by twisting the top together. drop the package into water thats just boiled and turned off the heat for about 3-4 mins (make sure it's about 2-3 inches of water).

"The perfect poached egg: break the egg into a cup, being careful not to break the yolk. Bring a small pan of water to the boil. When it is boiling rapidly, stir fast with a large spoon to create a vortex. Pour the egg into the centre of the vortex, place the lid on the pan and turn off the heat under it. Leave for exactly 2 minutes."

I have been trying to poach a perfect egg for years. It frustrates me like nothing on earth that I still can't do it. I got a boyfriend who's a chef so he poaches all the eggs now, thank goodness. DO NOT attempt to poach an egg if you have low patience levels.

I have tried MANY different ways to make poached eggs. Here is my easy, tried and true way:

Fill a latte or coffee mug 1/2 full of hot water, crack two eggs in the water, sprinkle pepper and kosher salt on top. Microwave for 1:45 min., spoon out and top with a pat of butter. YUMMY and EASY! Also clean up is a SNAP!

Make sure that the water is gently simmering in the pan, add a few drops of vinegar(this helps to hold the egg together in one piece) then stir the water into a vortex and drop the egg into the centre. Have a couple of goes until you find the texture you prefer. Good luck.
