It is actually a periodontist who you want to see. An orthodontist fits you for braces! Anyway, before seeking out a periodontist (a doctor who specializes in the gums), I would go to your general dentist and see what the problem is. You may just need a simple cleaning, and probably some scaling (the hygienist goes deep into your gums and cleans out any food or bacteria). Or, you could have tooth that is abcessed and need to have a root canal or extraction (along w/ antibiotics) to get rid of the infection In the mean time, I would recommend swishing and rinsing your mouth w/ warm salt water. After that, I would apply clove oil (found in any health food store) to the afflicted area. The clove oil magically reduces the pain in the affected area.

Well, you need to see a specialist. But, from my own personal traumas with my gums/teeth I have found this out....
IBProfin is an anti-inflamatory that has worked, but it takes about 4-5 200mg tablets to bring the swelling down.
Cold drinks contract gums, Hot drinks expand them.
For pain from swelled up gums...brush, flosh good, and swish with antisceptic mouthwash for 1 minute. Then, take the IBProfin, then take a nap - during the rest the tissue in your body de-swells.
Also, make sure your body has enough water in it. If you are dehydrated, your gums will stay inflammed. A dehydrated body always swells up - a defense mechanism your body will automatically do to keep in the fluid that it feels that it doesnt have.
Good Luck

None helped because you either have an abscessed tooth or periodontal disease, both of which require professional dental treatment. An abscessed tooth will only get worse, it need to have either a root canal or be extracted. If the inflammation is generalized and all the tissue bleeds, you could have periodontal disease, this too requires professional treatment, the dentist and hygienist will need to professional clean out the affected areas.
Either way you need to seek a dentist. You can not treat either problem on your own.

First, you should know why you have inflammation??? Is it periodontal disease, abcess or just unhealthy gums. Your gums bleed only when the gingiva (gums) are unhealthy. Flossing and brushing which incourages bleeding is acually helping your gums become healthy. Also, use listerine to rinse with to help kill the bacteria which is causing some of the inflammation.

Go to the periodontist soon. They are the gum-specialists. Meanwhile, take Danzen (anti-swelling) + Paracetamol to reduce pain if any and continue gargling with Bactidol or Chlohexidine to minimize any infection taking place. Don't drink hot fuilds as this will lead to more swelling. Numb the pain, if any, by using ice-pack on the cheeks.

I'm so sorry, I know this is definitely an old post but I feel your pain I'm LITTERALLY going through it right now. I signed up for CARECREDIT and was approved for a credit line specifically for dentists or hospitals. The pain in my mouth got so bad and I couldn't take it anymore so, went to the dentist and they gave me antibiotics and pain killers. Also, told me I need to get them removed. . Prior to going to the dentist I went to the hospital because I have no money and the hospital sends you a bill instead of making you pay and I just don't pay the bill and let it go to collections.. The ER gave me anti biotics and pain killers... All the anti biotics and pain killers cost me under 10.00$.. If you want to relieve your pain I suggest the hospital, or sign up for care credit and try the dentist.. You can't get rid of the pain at home it will eventually get too bad. You just need the antibiotics...

You may have an abscessed tooth if the swelling isn't going down. Go to a dentist to find out for sure.
Do not let this go too long, as the infection from an abscess can work its way to your heart and kill you.

I have always used baking soda to brush, and hydrogen peroxide at full strength to gargle...That should heal the inflamation...Try not to swallow any, however...That could cause another problem...This is the poor mans' way...
