I am stymied at the UN role in the present crisis in Lebanon. How can the US (read Israel) get on with all this?

absolutely.
after the holocaust, many nations thought it necessary to find jews a homeland. to be honest, this was basically about a christian rejection of judaism as opposed to "people wanting to help them." US and Europeans did not see it fit to offer land for a jewish nation in the US or Europe so they are trying their best to FORCE a jewish holy land in the middle east. the jews pretty much identified israel (read: palestine) as their holy land due to it's religious religious significance. the problem with that is, that area has significance to christians and muslims as well, not just judaism alone.
this is a major part of what the fight is about. it's this holy land that the palestinians basically maintained and kept open for all. jews came and closed it down and decided to keep it for themselves. anyway, history, which is continuously IGNORED, shows that the true jewish holy land is in Ethiopia where MANY tribes of african people with dark skin are very much Jewish. I saw something on television claiming they "found" or "discovered" a jewish tribe in Ethiopia which is basically BS. they've always been there, never in hiding.
also, it should be mentioned, that when choosing their land in the first place, they absolutely did not want to be around african peoples in ethiopia.
it strikes me as odd to see jews being "allowed" to set up a holy land in the middle east but every effort is being made to disband islamic holy lands and to top it off the vatican is like the christian holy land.
anyway, they are a definitely a rogue state. if the jews wanted a holy land, they could have easily use their resources and gone to ethiopia. why forcefully take over a land that was already inhabited by another group of poeple and start all this discord? but then again i guess it's better to be "hunted" by angry muslims than to be at peace with people who are "afflicted" with dark skin.

It has to be remembered that Israel was our main allies in the Middle East when the majority of Arab nations were sided with the Soviet Union. It also has to be remembered that the Soviets oppressed the Christians and the Jews, but gave Islam free reign. Also while the Arabs say they were there first, there has been a Jewish presence when Israel is not going back to antiquity, and while Rome did scatter the Jews, even after 73 C.E. there remained a Jewish presence there. The Arabs want to deny this, but it has been proved via archaeological findings. The Arabs are NOT innocent in this at all, they are not Victims at all. Jordan was created by the Arabs to prevent Palestine from being located there. All of this anti-Jews, and US nonsense is Arab propaganda.
It also has to be noted that we have never supported Israel with by putting our troops into their war. This is not the same for the Arabs. We have put our troops on the ground to keep them out of the fire.

Israel and the USA or separate countries, check out a map sometime. It's annoying when the US gets blamed for everything, everywhere automatically.

Yes I think killing innocent lebanese families while "targeting Hebollah" is terrorism! It's the same as attacking the twin towers: you take innocent ppl's lives because you disagree with their countries political actions or beliefs!

Yes. However, the media often blames "correct wing extremists" instantly. Iran gets blamed as quickly as they examine it is Muhammed from Iran as a substitute than Billy Bob, the fats white corn farmer from Nebraska.
