I am the single mother of a 3 year old girl, and I am obese. I want to change my weight to get my BMI down, because it is dangerously high. I need a fairly easy workout that I can do with or without my daughter every day. I don't have a lot of money, so I can't go to the gym or anything. Any suggestions would be most appreciative, thanks. Peace.

First off, if you're out of shape, then you have to start easy and you have to combine exercise with healthier eating. I don't know what your eating habits are like and what kinds of foods you like, but start out with portion control and totally lay off the junk. Just cutting out junk and fatty foods will lower your blood cholesterol and you'll feel better from the inside out. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day, otherwise you can diet and exercise and get nowhere. ... no soda or fruit juice. Have tea or coffee instead (without the creamer or use 0 cal creamer).

As suggested already, walking is great and doing things with your daughter is great too (i.e. do a modified version of jumping jacks. Let her do the real thing and you switch from one foot to the other and just raise the legs lightly or to your ability; do a quick step as if you were dribbling a ball on the spot - she can do that too for about a minute, break and do another minute, break, do another minute; do arm exercises like clapping arms over your head in quick succession; draw circles with arms stretched out to the side).

Best I can recommend is to organize your life, meaning, make it a point to set one hour a day aside and call it exercise with mom or active play or something like that, so that your daughter gets to participate with you and you make it a fun, daily routine. Make yourself a plan with certain types of exercises that'll fill up the hour.

Key is not to plop back onto the sofa after your exercises. For a week or two, you'll feel hungry after exercise and exhausted, but that will go away and you'll start feeling just the opposite and if you make some adjustments to your diet, the fat will come off. Don't rush it, don't overdo it, but go slow and steady and you'll be successful.
Best of luck

This site explains that diet is more important and why waking is not good to lose weight under "exercise." Get the facts. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Walk with your daughter to the corner store whenever you need milk, etc, instead of driving.

Take her to the park and try to play with her. (Chasing children is hard!) Push her on the swing, you can use your abs for that if you concentrate.

Also, if you decide to start doing exercises, consider wall push-ups. They're like regular push-ups, except you do them against a wall. It's easier than floor ones and still helps you work out. You can do the floor kind when you're ready.

I think the hardest part of any exercise is finding motivation, but it is all part of where you can find it. You have a kid do it for her. I know it sound a bit harsh, but think about how you daughter feels if you were to die? think about when she grows up and gets married, and you are not there. My best advice is to start eating right today become more active, walk, play with you kid, make a decision and change your life. I found this article on EZ that may help you get started http://ezinearticles.com/?Easy-Workouts-To-Lose-Weight&id=8446480

why don't you dance with your daughter. Make a tape that is all really good dance music and dance for 30 min - 1 hour daily! It would get your heart going and a smile on your face! Another idea is get both of you a really good skipping rope and challenge each other " can you skip to 20? how about 100?"

Start with isometric exercises to build tone that will enable you to have the strength for more vigorous workouts later. One cheap weight system for arms is to fill two 1 gallon milk jugs with water and use them for hand weights - they'll weigh 8 lbs each. Any movement will boost metabolism. Step away from the computer.

No workout is going to be "easy" but you could take your daughter for walks, I am sure she would love it and that would keep you motivated to do it. My kids esp. love going on nature walks.
The YMCA here offers free or discounted memberships based on income and they have certified childcare while you work out and moms groups and all sorts of good stuff like that. You might want to check and see if there is a YMCA close to you, and if they have a program like that also.

Go for walks with your daughter. Then you'll get her into a healthy habit, too.

Therefore, you are not alone in this battle.
