My wife's mom is going on vacation today. We will be baby-sitting sitting her little kitten. Not long ago, a big, bad dog came into the neighborhood when the kitten was outside, and attacked him. Now, the liitle guy is paryalized from the waist down, can only walk on his front paws, and uses dapers. He's orange and white. We call him "Trooper". If you remember, please pray for him. Anyway, any ideas how we can make his stay here easier?

I'll definitely keep him in my thoughts and prayers. About a year ago I worked at a vet's office and I saw similar things and it was really sad and you could see how upset the owners were...a lot of them cried...a whole lot. We even had cats brought in that had been hit by cars and needed a lot of physical therapy and they pulled through.

Anyway, keep the kitten in the house and whenever you are home make sure that the kitten is nearby. If you have different levels in your home keep his food and water bowl nearby (food and water on each level). If you have a way to let the kitten look out the windows let him do it...especially if there is a bird feeder right outside the window. If he's not skiddish and is comfortable being held outside, then take him outside for some fresh air. If that's not possible consider opening a window so that he could get some fresh air. Of course, make sure that the diapers are clean. Other things that you could do is to groom him and play some little games with him things that doesn't require him to move to much but still able to stimulate him. Of course make sure that at night that he has a comfortable place to sleep and that his food and water bowl is near his bed. I would keep him in the same room with you at night.

I hope this helps and I will keep Trooper in my thoughts and prayers.

Most of the people answering assume that you didn't take him to the vet, I feel as if you did.
They do make little carts for animals in such a predicament, check into this. What happened to the dog? The owner of the dog should be responsible for what their animal did, seeing as how the kitten was in your yard.

People think it is so cool to have aggressive animals and yet they should have to live with what aggressive animals can do.

I know that Trooper is well taken care of and very much loved. If his quality of life is still good and he is happy, then he shouldn't be put down. So long as the humans in his life love him and are willing to go the extra mile for him.

Blessed be the survivor, my prayers are with him and your whole family.

Don't put him up high, as I am sure he is very independent and will try to get down on his own, which may result in injury. Give him a ton of love, pet him often and talk to him, cats (and other mammals) hear our words and understand our tone of voice. Reassure him that he is the most awesome cat in the world.

You say 'Not long ago,' How recent is this accident? Was the cat taken to the vet right away? Modern medicine can do wonders these days. if your wife's mom isn't willing to take cat to the vet and get treatment, I would advise taking this opportunity to find the best vet possible and get advice. What, if anything can be done for the kitty? Is the kitty suffering? Will he have severe problems when he gets older? Once you have all the facts, then you can make a decision about the kitty. While you have him please show him more love than you've ever showed anyone before.

I feel for Trooper the name seems to fit him. Since he only
has the use of his front paws that alone would be very hard
on him. I know some poeple have said to have him put to
sleep and this is very hard for everyone around. If i were all
of you who is around Trooper how would you feel if you were
him. Do i want to stay around this way or do i go to sleep and
wake to find a happier place where i'm whole again. Just
think about it and come up with the right solution as to whats
best to make him more comfortable. My heart goes out to
Trooper.

Poor little dude! He'll be in my thoughts tonight. I can see why you call him trooper....what a little hero. *wipes tear away*

ahem... right.

Put down lot's of cushions on the floor so he's got somewhere nice to sit without having to struggle onto a chair or sofa. Get some old boxes and arrange them so he can explore in or out at will. I don't know his exact mobility situation, but try to make some simple toys that he could play with, by himself and with you, that are suited to his abilities.

Hope everything goes well! Give the little guy a pet from me.

I will pray for him. Just make some time for some one on one. Hold him and scratch him under his chin and around his ears. Pull a string so that he can swat at it with his front paws. Feed him salmon.

bless him. just give him lots of love cos he's probably a bit traumatised and will miss his mommy! spend loads of time with him, particuarly today so that he knows he has people to protect him as he explores your place.

enjoy him though, sounds like a little character, and he obviously adjusts well.
