Hence the term, "freak of nature". :)
If it's genetic, people may pay good $$$ for a kitty who likes a bath.

There is a breed of cat (I think its turkish van) that loves water so much it will literally get in the tub or pool with you. Maybe your cat has an element of this breed in her? My cat likes to play with the tap but still freaks out over getting wet. Perhaps you little girls is a bit more sensible though and has realised that its not going to kill her and its too much fun to stop!

I have a domestic short hair brown tabby his name is PV (piss n vinegar) that sits on my shoulder when I shower and a Turkish Van that prefers to bathe in the tub alone actually she swims (yes this breed seems to like water) and I believe the Tonkinese are so attached to their owners that they will bathe with them just to have their owners company. When I was younger I had a cat that would sit on my stomach in the tub and scoop water up in his paws and wash his entire body about 4 days a week. So as for strange behavior I just don't think we are in a position to stereotype cats. I have a labrador that absolutely hates baths and would die if I ever suggested we go to the beach .... go figure.

Many cats like to play in the water and will demand the owner turn on a tap for them!!! That is why they make that cat fountain thing that keeps the water cool and lets the cat play in it.
They do not seem to like a bath or anything like that...or getting caught in the rain...but if it comes out of a faucet, they love it!!!!

Normal cat behavior is an oxymoron. I had one that loved showers. I have another that refuses to drink from a water bowl, it must be from the kitchen tap. Yet another 'swims' in her water bowl, splashing until the floor is soaked. The great thing about cats is that they are unpredictable and nothing surprises me when it comes to their behavior.

I have a Maine **** who loved water as akitten but is not into it now. I have a two year old tabby, though, who does the same thing as your cat and even sleeps in the tub. It is "normal", meaning it doesn't mena your cat is sick or psycho, but it isnot the most "usual" of cat behaviors. So, you have a special kitty!

I had an Abyssinian cat once who used to love to swim. He was the only cat I ever had who did that. We used to have to pull him out of the pool all the time because although he was good at jumping in he would have a lot of trouble finding a way to get out. We finally had to keep him in for fear he would drown if somebody forgot to look in the pool, then it was LOOK OUT FOR HERBIE whenever any of us took a bath or shower. LOL

two of my cats like water. whenever i get out of the shower or the bath tub they get in and lay in the left over water. they also sometimes play in my kitchen sink if there is water in it. besides what is normal? i am sure that behavior is normal to your cat as well as many others. my cats groom my dogs sometimes...that is normal to them.

Think of tigers, they love to swim. There are certain breeds of domestic cat, such as the Turkish Van, that really dig water.
