Wow, this one is almost straight across gender lines with girls virtually unanimously saying no!
Least everyone forget. President Franklin Roosevelt was married to his Cousin Elenore.
As long as it's not done repeatedly within the blood line in generation after generation there is no valid proof of any more defects than with strangers, least anyone forget the RH factors, which contribute to Downs or mental retardation.
We used to screen for this with blood tests, but most state no longe require blood tests.
Tysacks is also transmitted among strangers.
Cycle Cell Animia is also transmitted.
There are lots of good reasons to screen partners by blood and FORBID marriages, but there is one overriding reason not to: Love.
If you LOVE someone and GOVERNMENT says: You have a better than 25% chance of making a deformed baby, your blood says so, is that going to stop you?
If you LOVE someone and GOVERNMETN says: We forbid the marriage, because there too many genetic problems based upon our testing, what you gonna say!
(On the other hand, we'll have less dummies in school and no more racists if guys from the South stop marrying their sisters! -- sorry couldn't resist that one!)

Techincally speaking cousins can marry, as long as the relation to the other cousin is not throught the dad, how ever if the relation is through the mother then its ok, fine no problem with it. I personally think its fine, as long as the relation is that on the mothers side. I haven't got a probelm with it, a few years ago i fell in love with my cousin (on my mums side, it was my mums sisters son) and it was not looked upon as "bad" or "not normal", however i was advised to not fall in love with my cousins on my dads side (my dads brothers son). our relationship howvever never worked out as i was younger than my cousin at the time and we both as time went on wanted different things out of life. But i must say i don't regret breaking up in that relationship, cause today i am here engaged to be married to the best person who has ever entered my life (and no its not another cousin...). I got engaged last night!!! I'm happy!

Yes. Really you have more chances of having birth defects if you have children over 40 rather than with your cousin.
Is it socially inacceptable? sure it is. Is that going to stop people from falling in love and having children? Nope not at all. Its just going to make it so they are going to have more unmarried folks raising their kids or just unmarried people living together who want to be married.

Of course. THe odds of genetic problems with offspring is about 2%-3% higher than non-relatives. The odds of genetic problems for a women in her 40's is higher than that. SHould we make a law that 40 yr old's can't have babies?

Sure, why not. Then you can be assured of raising little challenged mixed breeds.
When cousins mate, the bad genes are prominent and cause their children to have many defects. If that's what you want...have at it.

IT is socially unacceptable in the US, but in other places it is all good.
It raises the chances of a few diseases, which can now be tested for. I say why not.

No because of the genetic problems that would occur if there were children born to the couple.
