Everyone learns differently. Many people are visual learners; they pick up information easiest when they can read about it or view a video or demonstration. Some are kinesthetic learners, people that learn best by hands-on experience. There are also auditory learners. These people learn best by hearing, like having someone explain step-by-step, or going to a lecture. The best learners (and I think I personally do this) combine all three, depending on the learning event and many other factors (teacher, mood, environment, etc). I say, if one doesn't work out for you, try another. If you don't pick it up by reading about it, for example, then attend a lecture about it.

For me personally, it's all about learning about what I am interested in. I think that if a person is interested in something, they are more apt to be involved in the learning process.

In the classroom (I'm a teacher), I believe that each student learns in a different way (I teach students with mental retardation). I try to structure the way I teach for the students - often this means using a variety of approaches - hands on learning, auditory learning, visual learning, etc. - I'm a big believer in Gardner's Multiple Intelligences.

Experience is the best teacher. If a teacher is able to have the students teach themselves through trial and error, observations, and analytical thinking, etc., the students would retain the lesson better, because the student was able to figure out the answer all by him or herself..

Well part of it would be that I try and learn something every day. There is so much that we supposedly educated people don't know, that to not look, listen and learn would be foolish.
