The answer really depends on what you can offer your new dog. The larger the dog the more room they should have to run and excersize. A border collie is a mid size dog and are devoted to their owners and one of the smartest dogs to train. There's nothing cuter than a 3 month old sheepdog but certainly requires space and room to run. You must remember those cute little puppies grow up! You must also remember you are adopting a new member to your family that must also be loved by other members of your family. I'd suggest a minature collie or sheltie as they are sweet, smart and loyal but can be expensive. Good Luck and I hope you find just what your looking for.

My chihuahua is the sweetest dog I know. She loves EVERY single person she meets and will give anyone kissies, whether they want them or not, haha.
Chis are also the smallest dog, so they are easy to take everywhere, which is good to do so that they get proper socialization.
Chis are also smart, fun, loyal, and mine was very easy to train, and is potty trained.
Despite what many people think, chis really don't bark all that much as long as you never encourage it when they are young.

We raise and sell Pekingese, and as a result have many friends who's stories about Pekingese are heart warming.
Many of these people tell us when they loose a pet it is just not possible to continue their lives without replacing the beloved Pekingese.
Male or female, they just cuddle and love on their owners to the point 'they' can't live without them.
Personally when my wife brought a pair of Peke's home to save their lives, I was against it, but gave in anyway. In a very short time, I too became a Pekingese lover and we now own 19.
Loved, cuddled played with, they for me are an obsession.....

If you are a quite, laid back person, it could be tough to be matched with an outgoing, dominant puppy. If you are looking for a dog to compete with in sports, that quiet, shy dog would probably not work out well. A good breeder or rescue will screen the puppies or dogs to make the best match possible.

A dog's temperament has a lot to do with how it's raised. The most good-tempered and fun small dog I've known was a small collie, probably a crossbreed (these often tend to be more sensible;hybrid vigour!). She did have a tendancy to try to herd you, though!

Shih Tzus! They're really loyal, and they can be super smart. Just a few days ago I met one that I'm living with now, and she liked me right from the start. What else could you want?
P.S. They're also good for guarding the house because the bark when someone's at the door.

There isn't just anyone breed. Go to this website and see if it can help you figure out what you are looking for. It is a website by Purnina that has helped a lot of people figure out what breed is best for them.

Loyal, smart and sweet have a lot to do with the way they are raised also.
