I know alot of Muslims who are very strict about the no eating pork bit, but they drink lots of alcohol which I thought was illegal for them to do so, and they wear pig leather shoes, which I thought they weren't supposed to have contact with pigs.
Also, I think Muslims in different countries seems to have varied practices.

Good observation Jan. Yes the Muslims do not eat pork meat. It is not illegal though. It is something advised in religious texts. It is like fasting. You know where Muslims all around the world do not eat anything between specific times of the day. It is a practice. Alcohol is also another thing that one - not only Muslims but everbody - should not consume much. The religions advise people to do healthy things. If smoking was common 1500 years ago, Islam would prohibit it. Because it is damaging. Shoes:) You can wear anything you like.

Alcohol is strictly haraam, meaning not allowed in any sort of way. Pork is haraam aswell, but the lines get blurry when talking about products derived from pigs, which is why some Muslims can eat wine-gums (containing gelatine), and others can't. While I can't give you a quotation, I'm sure that a few Muslim scholars define even clothing made in part of pig as haraam.

well, alcohol is prohibited in all religions, pigs or pork is very bad for your health a lot of medical reports proved it .
if some Muslims drink Alcohol and do not eat pork , well that is because they do not want to make worse :)))) and it is the same as some Christians eating pork and drinking alcohol

it seems to be a serious question so i iwll give u a serious answer
muslims are not allow to drink alchol wahtever happen and also they are not allowed to eat pork and drinking alchol and eating pork in islam consider as a sin.
about the muslims who drink alchol so they commet a sin coz it is forbidden as i told u befor also it is not the proplem of the islam coz islam ordered them not to drink alcohol
about wearing the pig leather shoes,we arenot forbidden to wear them and we can have contact with pigs coz they are creatuers of Allah but BE CAREFUL we can have contact with them but never eat them.
Muslims in different conturies seems to have varied practies,this is their proplem and this isnot the proplem of islam coz Allah gave them certain orders throught the Quran and the sunnah and they have their free well to obey this orders or not,also this isnot the proplem of muslims only,christians in different countries seems to have varied practices,right???

They say they don't drink and hate pigs because of their religion. Well i can say from experience because i was in IRAQ, and SAUDI, and KUWAIT. The Muslim men do it in secret, kinda like black market stuff. They love Jack And the captain if you know what i mean. Hippocrates are everywhere, and it dint make them bad Muslims if they do it. its just the sign of the time. In a nutshell its kinda like being a kid; when your folks told you that you are not allowed to smoke or drink what did you want to do the most?? Its more thrilling to do things that will get you in trouble if you get caught, and it get boaring when you are of age and can do it ya know. I guarded prisoners in Iraq and i can say that lots of the Muslim men love pork products but will only eat the stuff if no one else is around so they wont get yelled at. I knew one prisoner who always wanted my sausage from my breakfast, but would only eat it if everyone else (especially the elders weren't around), and i had to swear not to tell on him. He loved the crap more than me???

No alcohol and no pig shoes. The reason for no pig shoes is there will not be any pig leather since they do not eat pig.

about the leather shoes its alittle technical teh koran only says not to eat pork. and as for alcohol it is forbiden.
just like the bible states the use of images, statues,in worship is a reproach to god. many people still pray to the cross and pary to the virgin mary.
