If he were older then maybe Mary just said she was a virgin in order to get the job but had been messing around on the side. Most likely though, he was younger, because after Jesus came along Joseph figured out that he did not have to use sheep any more and that Mary might work just as well.

Mary was a virgin. The Bible even uses the term "first born" when describing Jesus.

Joseph was actually a much older man, older than Mary, when he "betrothed" her. In fact, he was a widower and had fathered other children with a now deceased wife. If Jesus had "brothers" it would have been step-brothers, and this would account for a "brother" to be older.

Explain why Jesus, from the cross, "gave" his mother Mary into the care of the Apostle John. The culture required an adult son to take in and care for an older widowed mother. Had there been other biological children of Mary's, she surely would not have lived her remaining days in the house of John. The other sons would not have permitted it, nor would society have allowed those sons to abandon her to a man who was not family.

Matthew 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

I don't see the name "Thomas" in the list. Perhaps your friends are getting their information from one of the false gnostic gospels.

Besides, Jesus was Mary's first child.

Luke 1:31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." 34 And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I am a virgin?"

Apparantly Jesus had quite a lot of brothers and sisters. He most certainly was not an only child and having being brought up as a catholic I found this information came to me as a bit of a shock. Why had I never been told this before.

There have been many studies done into this and the one that I find most believable is that Jesus was born to Mary when she was quite young -about 14 and as a result of rape from a roman soldier. I believe Jesus was a powerful man but most certainly was not the result of a vigin birth. Others like the link below believe that Thomas may even have been Jesus' twin brother and that Jesus went on to have a family of his own.(a bit davinci code if you like?) This is only what I believe but hope it helps a little.x

Well if Mary was a virgin, that means that Jesus was the first child she had. So Thomas must have been older.

jesus had no older or younger brothers or sisters and mary was a virgin and remained but that expression brothers was used by jews in the past when they referred to other one's cousins and those were his cousins from mary's sisters but not his brothers from mary or even joseph and like someone said that is why when jesus was on the cross he asked john not any of thoso called brothers to take care of her and iam sure of this information and it is mentioned in the bible that james was the son of zebdee not joseph and it is proved in soooo many websites but i chose these two sites but u can find millions on the net proving that jesus had NO brothers or sisters

Since Mary was a virgin when Jesus was conceived, any siblings would have to be older.
