I agree with the Petfinder.com. That's where we located our dog in April. Petfinder has a really nice set up. You can do a regional, extended or national search, choose sex, general age, size etc. Then petfinder will show you dogs that meet the criteria you set a several animal shelters. Most shelters will post a pic, give you some info about the dog, and have a link to their organization. Some organization even have on line adoption forms so you can start the process. That's what we did in our case. When we were approved the set up a meet and greet with the dog(s) of our choice. A really nice feature with the organization we choose, they were connected with a prison foster system(most foster systems are great), the dog came to use with basic obedience and housebroken. Be aware, not all organizations take care of everything up front(vaccinations, spay/neuter, micro chipping, etc).
Good Luck With Your Search

A pound is the worst place to find a pet. They are often abused and neglected in the city pounds.

You are better off looking for a pet in one of the nationwide shelter organizations.

I prefer http://www.petfinder.com/ they are linked to all the noteable shelters and are more interested in the well being of animals.

They also sometimes have history on the animal. Many of them have been dropped off by thier prior owners.

your local animal shelter. if you dont find anything there, im sure they can tell you where else to go. by the way, the are already spayed or nuetered when you get them and you will be saving a life. just make sure what ever you get, that you do research on the care and the needs of that animal before you get it.

Have you tried your local Humane society or the SPCA?
I have gotten dogs and cats from both. They tend to be very grateful, animals.

Look up your local ASPCA or Human Society, and go to their facility. Sometimes they even have pictures of the animals online.
