the reason jews dont eat pork is not through a religious belief ,
it is the simple fact that pork meat goes rancid very quickly in hot climates and in general it does not store at all well. The jews found this out when they got food poisoning and this killed them in the thousands, they thought this basic fact of decomposition in meat products was a "smite" from god ........you dont see pork meat in tinned pet foods for this simple reason because it will kill them.............and animals dont have religion nor can they be punished ?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the reason is a pragmatic one. Pigs take up a lot of resources in non arable land that the Jews live in, so it became part of their religion not to eat or raise them.
