If Christianity were based on love rather than fear, Christians wouldn't have invented a 'God' who created an eternal hell. Inflicting punishment solely to satisfy some almighty self-righteous wrath is the kind of cruelty only a sadistic monster would be capable of.
But Christians try to reconcile their vision of 'God' as both a sadistic monster and as a sweetly loving dad, which a rational, thinking mind can't do. Wrongdoing is a lack of awareness; ignorance -- not evil -- is the source of all "sin". Punishment should always teach, or else it is purely vindictive cruelty. Punishment should enlighten and give the individual the opportunity to gain wisdom by experiencing what he caused others. Karma is the golden rule, and Jesus as an Essene rabbi taught reincarnation and karma, traces of which can still be glimpsed in the bible, for those who have eyes to see.

True religion evokes the golden rule, do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Love dictates that you do things because you want to and see the good in it,not because you have too. Fear or forced behavior of any kind is fake and fleeting. Its like kids in a home. They may watch what they do and say when mom or dad are around, but a soon as that presence is removed they revert back to who or what they really are. Love is doing the right thing even if nobodies watching. Dont pooh pooh religion its good that people struggle to get better, but its the hypocrasy of saying one thing and then doing another that gives it a bad name.

Well, you maybe right and you could be otherwise the thing is, if you are in to it then chances are you will find what you are looking for, bottom line if you are in between you will always be swayed by other forces, so be firm, and know that GOD exists, and is coming pretty soon, and Armageddon has got nothing to do with it. The fear part is just their way for us to repent, but if you are ok with where you are right now, then why be pulled in to what you think is not right for you.

fear factor in a major way. they preach that they love and then just tell people that they are going to hell. for the longest of times religion's name has been used to torture and kill people because they believe differently than the people of that religion. People should practice their personal spirituality no matter what they believe. Religion has been taking advantage of people today through money as well...the newest version. this is just from my experience and learning about history.

It may depend on the religion. christianity is based on love, not fear, but i can see how you might get that impresssion. things like hell and armageddon are just realities we accept, but we do not have fear of those things., because the good news it that we do not have to worry about them... all that is for the bad people, not those that love god.

Fear ..is not just being scared or afraid...fear in the bible in the old testament means ..reverence respect...so the bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.Proverbs 1:7.well use the word(s) reverence or respect ..and that gives a true and proper meaning....also to show you that there is more than one meaning ...the meaning you were referring to is afraid scared ..the bible says ..God has not given us a spirit of fear..2 Timothy 1:7
So when you say fear please understand God does not want you to be afraid and scared...He wants you to love and respect (reverence) or at least respect him if you don't love him that's the difference between reverence and respect...the Love...God bless

Fear. I guess they all start with love, but by the time they become religions it's all about fear.

fear/love, both I believe
Fear in the Religion allows people to shake the devil off of them and to perform whatever righteous action that they probably would have done if they did not fear. It encourages that one to perform righteous action in his/her on religion.
Love in the Religion allows people to even follow their religion. For their religion, if one loves it, they'll do anything, even if it means giving their own worldly desires.
