I might be caused by histamin which produce by our body when allergent (straight protein) enter the body. So antihistamin or local antihistamin should help to ease it.

Its the anesthetic the fly injects into your skin so you dont notice him nicking your blood, once its finished with you it takes out the proboscis and clears off, this is why it swells, and itches, some people have a worse reaction than others, anti histimine cream or pills should put it right.

swilling after horse fly bite is due to so called inflammation where the bite stimulate body immunity so that the biting site become hot, red ,painful,and become swell, you can simply apply one of corticosteroid cream locally on the bite site but be for this cream you can apply immediately cold sponge to decrease the swelling as possible.
