I like the way Jack Nicholson does it in As Good As It Gets:
"Carol the Waitress, this is Simon the ****"
It's nice to add interesting details about the people you are introducing.

Watch Bridget Jones, that tells you. "Shelia this is Daniel, Daniel this is Shelia. Shelia works in education and comes from New Hampshire whilst Daniel works in publishing and cums all over your face". HA HA HA they all start laughing. You get the idea.

The "more important" the the less important, except that is quite suibjective in some cases. Who is more important, the company president, or your father?

I believe the proper way is to first introduce whomever you're accompanying.
