Celtic is pronounced 'Seltic' on the insistence of one of the Club's most prominent founders - Brother Walfrid. Originally from Ireland himself, he help establish Celtic so that they could fund the many soup kitchens in the east end of Glasgow that were run by the Catholic Church. Interestingly, the name that was first muted was Glasgow Hiberninans to reflect the Irish input. However, it was decided that a better name would be Celtic and Brother Walfrid insisted that pronouncing it 'Seltik' in a fashion as to how most Scots speak could reflect both a Scottish and irish identity. An identity the club still maintains today.

It isn't. It's PRONOUNCED Seltic because that's the way we do things in this country. A letter "C" followed by the letter "E" is always pronounced as a "soft" C.
Cat, cauldron... Hard C
Cedric, Cecil, ceiling - Soft C
Look the rest up for yourself in a dictionary if you're that interested!

The same reason Cilla Black is "Silla" and not "Killa". C can be pronounced either as S or K, and the followers of the club pronounced it as an S, although as you presumably know the word celtic is normally pronounced as a K. I suspect that this is purely because they were unfamiliar with the word "celtic" when the club chose that as their name, and consequently mispronounced it.
