I'm glad you asked this question -- because it's already obvious from the answers that you're getting an overdue lesson in terrorism.

With hope that I don't duplicate too many of the other answers:

This country has had plenty of its own terrorists -- "good" Christians all. Think of the Ku Klux Klan, dragging innocents from their beds at night to lynch them, burning crosses in people's yards because of their skin color or their beliefs.

And think of the early British settlers who gave blankets infested with smallpox to Native Americans.

A few more examples:

-- Nagaland Rebels -- A Christian terrorist group whose goal is independence from India.

-- The Irish Republican Army -- Another Christian terrorist group that fought for independence from English rule.

-- The Tamil Tigers -- A political terrorist group seeking independence from Sri Lanka.

-- The Red Brigades -- A Marxist political group that sought to turn Italy into a Marxist state.

There there also are terrorist groups in Colombia, the Philippines, Peru, and other countries. None of them are Muslim or Isamic.

Well. In the light of what is happening today I can confidently say that not all terrorists are Muslim. The state of Israel is today having a terrorist behavior towards the population of Lebanon and particularly the innocent children of this country.

Israel is behaving today like a terrorist state. So not all terrorists are muslims.

A point to remember as well is that during the first part of the 20th century the jew in Israel were leading terrorists attacks against the colonial power in order to claim the country.

Muslims terrorism is rooted in the overall dictature of power that arab leaders have on their own people. This lack of democracy and freedom leads groups to those acts, fuelled by the dictators that always find a good excuse to blame the west for the state of their own country.

Unless those country have failry elected and recognised politician then the situation won't change much.

I also think Muslim have a problem with the way the globalisation goes in term of western culture expansion and so that is also fueilling this sort of reaction.

Cannot understand why the generalization, it only reflects ignorance:

Terrorism has no religion, for example:

1. Neo-fascists bombed a train station in Bologna, Spain 1980
2. In 1980 president Regan begins a covert war through Central America
3. How do you expect the US got Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and California? Because the Mexicans loved the Americans so they gave it to them?Maybe Muslims invaded Mexico and gave it to the US as a present!
4. Remember Vietnam !!
5. Apartheid in South Africa.
6. To my understanding the serial bomber Robert Eric Rudolph (2000) is not a Muslim, is he?
7. The Oklahoma City bombing (1995) was done by Timothy McVeigh & Terry Nichols, again a non-muslim.
8. The Ku Klux Klan are non-muslims
9. The Baader-Meinhof Gang in Germany who gave Germany a decade of terrorism (1968-1977) were non-muslims.

My point is, terrorism has no religion.

The question is, why is the media trying to mate terrorism with Ismal? and in doing so, they depend on the naiivity and ignorance of the receiveors, who no more do their own reading and understanding, but base their knowledge and education on the media.

People in America cannot even define terrorist right now. The word is thrown around so much that everyone who is different is now a terrorist.

It is a sad situation that the Islamic religion has been made the western worlds scapegoat for the wests meddling in others affairs. America, it seems, will never learn. We are not the rulers of the world. There are people out there who are prepared to defend themselves.

It is funny though. Today some people say muslims are terrorists. If you study the Revolutionary War you will see that the Americans were considered terrorists by the British.

Actually the highest terrorist groups in the world comes from muslims than any other terrorist nationalities and that is true...long time some but few people used to say bad things about muslims against islam but not all of us said that!...this created a miss understanding...later that time US wage war on afghans and iraqis and supported israel to rule palentine and now lebanese....and we heard that some muslims even support Bin Laden as a hero!!!....but that is wrong and this is causing every muslims a problems in their social lifes from residential countries....our hopes lies on US to help solve this catastrophe or else there will be an increase of terrorism in the years to come and we won't let that happen!
Terrorists are a bunch of locusts we have to eliminate them with repellents....

Oh man, is this question old. You need to do some reading before asking this question, 'cause now you're choking on the wrong foot.

There are appx 900 million to 1.5 billion Muslims world-wide. There are only a few thousand Islamic terrorists in existence. They represent only a drop in the bucket of the world's Muslim population.

The IRA, Timothy McVeigh, the KKK, the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a non-religious terrorist group), Red Army Fraction, Japanese Red Army... these are all examples of non-Muslim terrorist groups.

To say that every terrorist is a Muslim is a false statement. Do your homework before perpetuating erroneous information.

First of all you have to define what's your defination of terrorist is. Because if you call people who are fighting for justice or freedom like for example Chechnya, Palestian, Kashmir etc as terrorist then your defination is wrong. And if you redefine the list then you will see the drop of Muslim groups. By the way Isreal is not called terrorist group even though UN clearly says it occuiped illegal land and human rights openly says that they break all the human rights then how come we don't add them to that list?

FYI: When USA, India, etc were fighting for freedom from British, Britishers use to call those people terrorist and in our eyes they were freedom fighters.

In the end I just want you too see the story from both points of view. Thats all I got to say.

Every religious zealot/fanatic is a terrorist be it a muslim, hindu, christian or jew. Some resort to physical violence while others do not, but they are all violent. I think its not right to say that every terrorist is a muslim. Any act of war or subversion is an act of violence and whether practised in the name of a country, religion or sect is an act of terrorism. and if you see over a period of time you will find that such acts of terrorisms are being conducted by nations, so called religions, sects etc. These are equally acts of terrorism and must be seen as such.

terrorism is a difficult concept.

1) throughout history, terrosists were not always mulsims.

2) in WW2, a lot of countries were occipied by germany. And during occupation, a lot of people were activelly preventing the germans to remain in the occupied countries. To do that, they destroyed supply lines, stole weapons AND killed as many germans as possible.
If the germans had won, they would have been remembered by history as terrorists. Now, they are remembered as heroes.

terrorism is not as bad as genocide, and if you're american, read "a people's history of the US" by howard zinn, you will see americans have done terrible stuff.
And if you're from another cuontry, then look in your history, and you will always find horrors your country has done at one point or another.

3) muslim terrorists fight for what they believe to be a just cause. (of course, I disagree with them, but all the same) even if their leaders only fight for money andpower (same as our governements, really)

Thats what have been achieved by the people who dislike islam..... Of course islam is a religion which stands for truth and many of the countries dont like this fact... this was coupled with some indecent activities of some muslim communities to get these rights.... this act was then grown by western powers and other groups to stereotype islam as a world threat to get rid of it..... as for now if any incident happens it is first looked as an act of islam.... these people are so ignorant that they miss the people under their feet who have done the insane act in the search for a so called muslim terrorist..

Islam was always considered as a religion of peace....by world class thinkers philosophers.....many have referred to the teachings of its prophet.....however now any child born is with a belief that muslim are some kinda terminators...... thats how the real terminators play with their own community to kill themselves
