do you want every reason?
1: collect them how? only a small part of an iceberg floats above the surface.
2: when an iceberg melts it adds to the worlds fluid water supply and therefore raises the level of the oceans
3 icebergs dont drift. they stay were they are usually trapped by frozen ocean water

Because icebergs are made of salt water - you are confusing them with ice CUBES ;-) You might as well just desalinate sea water. Mind you, sending ships to tow icebergs and desalination would both contribute a hell of a lot to global warming due to energy inputs.
Great thoughts, though.

Freshwater icebergs would have to come from the antarctic so are not feasible for use in the norther hemisphere as they would melt to a fraction of their original size and cause localized climatic aberrations.

I like your thinking. You come up with the good ideas and let others figure out the details.
