Because most parents are looking for the miracle cure that let's them out of being responsible for their childrens behavior. Most parents don't want to believe that the discipline problems stem from the lack of parenting skills and poor discipline. So when a doctor gives them a script for soemthing that calms the child down(in fact makes them a vegetable), they think that the doctor was right. It's called irresponsible parenting...and it's a very large problem in society today. We could also look at the doctors giving the script.. is there any way we can stop that from happening? Would that then teach parents they have to address the real problem?

They dont want to take the time to actually solve the problem....they figure a few drugs should "cure" the kid, and then the parents wont have to deal with them!

in some cases it's desperation. i know that if i would have had to raise me i would have put me on anything i could and my mom chose not to and now they're finding out they should have. some disorders, like serious bipolar children for example, do require some medication.
