The moment you turn 18 you become an adult in the eyes of the law. At that time your parents no longer have responsability for and over you, and you are free to make you're own decisions. In other words, your parents can stop supporting you and paying for your education. And you don't have to obey them.

In some cases, a minor can become emancipated from their parents before that age, but they must go to court and prove that there is a situation of neglect or abuse, etc, and also prove that they can support themselves. Some child actors do this in cases where it appears that their parents are using up the child's money or getting in the way of the child's career. But I have heard of cases of regular kids getting emancipated.

Sometimes the emancipation is a amicable process, but rarely. It isn't nicknamed "divorcing your parents" for nothing.

In the United States at age 18...unless you choose to continue living with your parents and accepting their money, food, etc.

If you choose to not go out and make it own your own, you'll be under their control until you decide otherwise. It's their house, their money, food, etc....they have no further legal obligation to you after age 18.

When you are 18 I suppose. But, don't be quick to get away from control. You will need your parents help always. And, if you turn your back on them and try and escape their control. They may give you what you want. And, believe me. The real world is TOUGH to survive in.

After you have a well paying job, a substantial savings and a home of your own. Then believe it or not you will be free to depend on them like never before! God bless the child that's got his (her) own.
