I need a romantic gesture for my girlfriend who is returning home after a long time away to show her that I've missed her.

NO PETS!! Flowers are a bit predictable but all girls love flowers, although girls do not love all flowers, you have to pick the right ones for your girlfriend. Rose petals scattered around or on the bed that could be really nice.

You could buy her things, like a necklace (stay away from suprise perchases of rings, you could really hurt her feelings.) gifts do show that you care, but really think about her when you buy it. So many men buy their girlfriends stuff with hearts on and stuff, even though they have never seen her have an interest in that cute style. Be careful because she has to want to wear it, otherwise it's not that romantic. An ex once bought me some rubbish dolphin ornament and said oh I knew you would like it, thats your kind of thing. It really hit home that he had no idea of what I liked and disliked. It showed up all of the flaws in the relationship. So be careful!

Photo frames, collages (can't spell!) or photo albums are excellent presents. They are all about your memories together. Or you may choose to buy her some for the photos she took whilst she was away.

You could decorate you house or room (or hers, don't know your living arangements) like put romantic welcome home banners up, and candles etc.

Please do not forget that she has been away for a long time, and even normal things are gonna seem weird to her for a bit. She might not appriciate a grand gesture. Don't get upset if she seems a bit flat in a week or so either, thats normal.

Hope some of my advice hasn't scared you! Just be careful, this could potentally be a tricky time for you. Hope all goes well, don't forget that the romantic gesture should not cloud the fact that your girlfriend is home if ya know what I mean ;)

Valentine's day is totally a girl holiday. To guys it's final exams, the big project that is due, going over the wall into no man's land. In other words for us it's a chore. I hate to be the killjoy, as I don't even know you, but instead of Mall Cop you might consider seeing that new film with Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, and Scarlet Johansson. Because that's where I think his head is at.

Are you thinking proposal? Cause we always are?!?! Make her a nice dinner, and hand her a beautiful bouquet of her favorite flowers and kiss her passionately. Either that or drop on that one knee and give her that sweet little velvet box with a nice rock in it. Be ravenous and passionate with her. Smell good and look good, too. Don't stop holding her hand. Have fun!! You're gonna have sooo much fun!

Bouquet of flowers should always be there. And then from the airport. You can prepare a picnic in a quiet and private place. With some nice music in the background. For me actually it doesn't matter. What matters is to be with the person. really. :-) So my advise is keep it simple..
