I am babysitting an 8 month old outdoor pup. She is very hyper and lively. Overnight she became listless and began throwing up bloody fluid. Took her to the vet. She is up to date on shots. Urinalysis, toxicology and bloodwork came back fine. She is being kept for observation and IV fluids. What could cause this?

The vet called me last evening and said at this point she can't pinpoint the problem. She had the same food and water as my Bassethound and she's O.K. Checked the yard, found nothing unusual.

This is very strange...I would of thought maybe with the dog being a pup...maybe she ate something and it's tearing something maybe in the intestinal area or stomach. Puppies are always getting into things that they shouldn't...I would also think that maybe she ate something poisonous...but it's very weird that all the test came back fine. I see that you didn't mention an x-ray though and I'm suprise that the vet hasn't performed one yet...I think that might be the best route to go at the moment...Get an X-ray done...

I'm surprised the vet couldn't tell you. I presume he did xrays etc, to check the dogs insides.

Sounds like she has swallowed something sharp which maybe cutting her inside.....

If she were mine, I'd be demanding a more thorough examination from the vet......
