The Emporer's of china had his own private quaters where he lives alone without his concubines, queen, mother, children etc. Concubines lives together at a place in the palace called "Hou Kong" specially for concubines guarded by eunuchs. The Emporer may choose whom to spend with each night or none at all. That's why some concubines may only be visited by the Emporer once throughout her life time and also results in concubines murdering each other out of jealousy or trying to exceed each other in order to gian the Emporer's favour.

im sure the emperors were pretty promiscuos..haha...they could handle all of the sex...and wouldnt doubt it if they got down with some orgy action sometimes.
