Whenever you bring a new cat back home, It is a good idea to introduce him/her to the resident cat(s) while still in the carry case. Let the resident cat sniff around a bit. After a few minutes, take the carry case to a separate room and leave the kitty there for a while. Bring her out periodically to get the resident cat used to her. You can repeat the process over several days if necessary. Usually it takes only a few days, with kittens, a few hours. The older one may hiss but only if the kitty expects him to play mama. But even that they get used to quickly.

It just takes time. I went through the same thing a year ago. I had a two year old female cat and I brought home a six week old male kitten. She was outraged, but the little boy took to her right away. It took a good week or two for things to get back to normal. And now, they are buddies.

I had the same problem. For about a week the older cat chased the younger cat away and hissed alot. After that she adopted the kitten and was "nursing" her. Two years later they are best friends.

it takes time but this will help:

Put them in seperate rooms and sprinkle a little baby talc powder on each of them. leave them in their rooms for half an hour, then swap them round for half an hour. finally put them both in the same room and resist the temptation to interfere. they'll work it out eventually but making them smell the same and getting used to each others presence will help. give your older cat lots and lots of attention too as he probably feels shoved out. try stroking them at the same time, so he understands that he won't miss out just because you give attention to the new one, just don't force them to be together. they could end up the best of friends or could always be a bit jealous but they'll be ok with each other pretty soon.

Good luck

this will just take time....be sure to give your older cat as much attention as he wants (i know yousaid he's hiding but he will come out) and dont favor the kitten no matter how cute n fluffy she is!!! your older cat will come around & chances are they will become good friends in a bit of time

Be sure to give your cat a lot of love and attention without the kitten and give them time they should adjust with time love and patience.

How long have they been together? Maybe the older cat isn't getting used to a new stranger yet.

This happened to my cats before too, and soon enough they've become good mates.

make sure that u pay attention to both of your cats! pay more attention to the one that is jealous cat because he thinks that because u got another cat u wont pay any attention to him any more. dont get mad at him or yell! just give it time and they will eventually get long

Don't worry, this is normal. He'd get over it in a few days and start to love the kitty.
