Out of all the lettuce varieties commonly available, iceberg has the least flavor, least nutritional value, even the least fiber. The only advantage it really has is that it holds up better to shipping than any other form of lettuce.

Personally I like spinach better than most lettuce, but ones that taste good are romaine, butter, boston bib, cobb - which one you want to use depends on what you like to have with your lettuce. If you like a simple salad with caesar dressing, for example, nothing's better than classic romaine, but for a chef-style salad, cobb and bib are both good. Experiment with the different types and see what you like best - it's very much a matter of taste.

Iceberg has no nutritional value, so it's pointless to eat it. Romaine lettuce is great. You can also eat baby spinach leaves instead. At the market, there are great bagged salads. Try any brand that has a "spring mix." Tasty and nutritious!

No real nutritional value. Is fine once in awhile or with other better quality lettuces like the Romaine.

Iceberg lettuce is the worst nutrients there is. surely no dietary value and little or no fiber. crimson and green leaf lettuce is barely fairly extra nutritious. try crimson and green cabbage to get extra nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber on an identical time as conserving that crunch.

butter lettuce (aka bibb lettuce). it's yummy. try using a mesclun mix. i use a pre-packaged mix but be careful because some of the lettuces have a strong flavor. oh, and try using baby spinach too.

The fact that it's mostly water, with little nutrients or flavor.

Of course, that's also the reason some other people prefer it.
