There is only racism from the uneducated and bigotted. If you have family here or coming to visit friends you will be fine, especially if you visit diverse mulitcultural cities like New York City and Los Angeles.

Not really. I'm not middle eastern but none of the people I know care at all and I know quite a diverse range of people. The problem is going into areas with a lot of close mindedness, or as I like to call them...christians. The bible belt and the dairy belt both are full of racism and small mindedness.. Stay to either coast and you should be ok. I'm in denver and it's pretty decent here. Avoid rural america.

Good luck. It's GORGEOUS here though and is worth seeing.

In some areas that may happen, but it is against the law and it would be rare. Do you have a general idea of where you would like to visit or do you plan to tour a bit?

Is it possible that you could come with a group? They are usually well chaperoned. Have you checked with an organization called People to People? My son toured Europe for 3 weeks with this group and had a lovely time. Their website is: http://www.studentambassadors.org/

I know there are other exchange programs as well that do not require you to stay for an entire year. I apologize if I assume too much and guess that you are a school age student... They have exchange programs for adults as well, usually through business related service organizations like Rotary or Soroptomist. When I was a girl, we had a gentleman who was a banker from India who came to stay with our family for a week. He traveled from family to family while he was here. It was a very special experience for all of us.

I hope you get to come and I hope you have a wonderful stay! Welcome!!!

You aren't going to have a problem if you are visiting large cities such as Los Angeles or San Francisco in California, these cities are a large melting pot of all races. As is the same for a lot of large cities across the U.S. You will find a lot of people of middle eastern decent out here.

Sooo... I guess you can tell by the variety of answers you've gotten so far... that there's no doubt at all you'll be safer-than-dead, happier-than-sad, slandered-but-loved, respected while being-looked-down-upon, and most of all... you'll be so happy you visited our West-Eastern, East-Western, South-Northern, North-Southern, and Exterior-Midwestern-Eastern upside-down states... our biggest-small-citys and our cleanest-dirtiest-towns that you'll wish you never heard of America but, of course, you'll want to stay forever... All of this while avoiding the most urban-rural areas and speaking only to people you're certain are complete strangers-of your own family or minor- majorities who look like they're light-skined-black Christian-Jew-Islamic-Mexicans but are really just Oriental-nonbigot-visitors from L.A. California and they're here in disguise taking a tour bus because it's safer.

Hmmmm...?

Not if you are going to california, In California you could probly find some racists if you looked really really hard but other than them its a pretty racism free area of the country.

We're not all racists, I love every one no mater what race you are! I'm a Native American(Indian) but people always mistake me for Spanish until they here me speak then they think I'm just a darker skinned white person! Come on over, people in Mississippi are really nice no matter what people think we aren't all as backwards as people say! Your welcome to come here if you'd like!
