First of all, I think you are comparing apples and oranges here. Nuns are nuns because of their calling. They have chosen to follow a path of devoting themselves to god and serving his children. Muslim women on the other hand, although also Divine children of god, are not ALL nun-like. So one has nothing to do with the other.
Having said that, I do see where you are coming from though.
There is a negative perception, especially in the Western society, to lump all people of the Islamic faith, including women who wear scarves, as extension of terrorism. Too often, Muslim women are dragged into this stigma and are judged unfairly. These women are living human beings, with the same aspirations, same hopes, and same dreams for themselves and their families, as any other woman of any other race, religion or culture. They too are mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters like every other woman on this planet.
It is wrong to judge people in this ignorant manner. I particularly sympathize with these women because not only do they have to bear the burden of being a woman, which is a 2nd-class citizenship in any culture even today, but recently these Muslim women have been weighed down with a lot cruel prejudice as well.
My sincere hope and prayers are that one day we in the Western societies will come to grips with our anger and frustration and treat everyone, inlcuding those human beings who follow the Islamic faith, fairly and justly without any pre-judged notions about them.

Muslim women wearing the scarf are held in high esteem by other muslims.
It is only non-muslims that would find that scarf threatening.
As far as I know, non Christians wouldn't have any reason to respect or
reject nuns (although I'm sure a few ex-Catholics may disagree with that).
If Nuns were using their habbit (sp?) to sneak bombs in and blow things
up, they would very quickly be disrespected by the non Christian world.

Who despises Muslim women wearing the scarf? I don't and I have never heard anyone speak against it. I think very few Christians in the USA despise Muslims or anyone else.
Some of us are just a little perturbed that some Muslims want to kill us and blow us up; when we have never really done anything to hurt them. I guess we are just a little funny about those things.

Good question, I was raised catholic, went to catholic schools etc, when I saw the Afghanistan women in their black burkas, I thought why do such major religions treat their women the same way? Why do women have to cover themselves up so men don't get in trouble lusting after them?, why do women allow it? It's true that nuns aren't as obviously disrespected as Muslim women, but I think there is a great deal of disrespect and lack of self respect on both their parts. If God created women why would he want them to cover their bodies and hair up all the time,

Nuns are respected because they are nuns. Not because they wear the scarf.
Most of them have earned respect and it should not be denied merely because someone else wears a scarf.

It's about freedom versus slavery. Nuns adopt the habit because they want to (nowadays, anyway). Muslim women are forced to by law.

I've went to Catholic school from 1st to 8th grade and disrespected all nuns.
I don't know any scarf wearing Muslim women thus I can't disrespect them.

Depends on where ur getting ur info. I don't think Muslim women are despised, just people don't know how to approach them. I think feared is a better choice of words than despised.

Because people are frightened about what challenges their concept of 'normal' &/or familiar.
To some people from more closeted Western cultures, Nuns are familiar, 'Traditional' (for various definitions of traditional) Muslim garb is not.
