Hi,

I have a strong belief in ghosts and feel that for some reason I am being provoked to communicate with one or more...I am highly interested in them and enjoy these mysterious encounters...But, is this a sin or considered witchcraft to communicate with ghosts/spirits. I have only come into contact with an evil spirit one time...all of the rest have been stable or approach with a nice/guarding impression...

so, is this sin, or what do you think?

Hi.

We are told in the Bible to have no dealings with evil spirits so, certainly, it is wrong to have contact with the evil one you spoke of. The question left, then, is "is it wrong to have dealings with the "benign" spirits?

I do not claim to be an expert on spirits. I can only relate what I have learned from the Bible, the only source I can go to and know that it is truth.

The Bible tells us that there are several classes of beings: God, man, angels, fallen angels, demons, evil spirits, unclean spirits. A study of these beings shows us that there are several classes of angles and, several classes of demons. Fallen angels, evil spirits, and unclean spirits are all demons. If you look into Ephesians 6, you will see that there are classes of demons refered to as: principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world. "Spiritual wickedness in high places" is a general description of the demonic world.

So, the question we need to ask, then, is are these beings angels or demons? Let's consider the meaning of these words. "Angel" means messenger. As I am using it here, it specifically means a messenger from God. Did these beings claim to have a message from God? If they did, was the message consistant with what the Bible says? If the message was not consistant, then those beings were liars and, therefore, not angels, but demons.

Now, be warned! The Bible teaches that Satan, the leader of the demons, can disguise himself as an "angel of light". The demons know Jesus. The demons know God. And, the demons know the Bible! The demons are liars! Early on, they learned to mix their lies among truth to hide them; to make them harder to spot. The Bible teaches that contact with Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and angels should focus our attention on God. If these beings do anything other than to focus your attention on God, then they are not of God -- they are demons and are to be avoided, shuned, and through the power of the name of Jesus, forced out of your life.

Be extreamly cautious! I am not saying that no man ever has contact with angels, today. But, it appears to be a very, very rare occurance. I suspect that these are not angels which you have encountered, but demons.

My prayers for you go with this response. Many times, demonic encounters begin benignly or even friendly, but, in the end, prove to be very different. The words used in Ephesians to describe these demons is "poneria". This Greek word means evil, but has the connotation of vengeful hatred. But, this is not just a hatred. It is a hatred that is acted upon -- kind of like a man whose wife has had an affair with his neighbor. He becomes so filled with hate that he picks up a shotgun, walks next door, and shoots his neighbor. This is the kind of hatred that demons have for God. They know that they cannot do anything to God, personally, so they try to get to Him by destroying us. Be very careful!

I pray that you will have discernment in this.

I believe in ghosts, because I had the bad luck to to live in a haunted house a few years back.
I don't think seeking to communicate with the dead is one of the big sins but God probably frowns on it and here's why.
When you open yourself up to these 'spirits' you are giving them an invitation into your life, home and body. Ghosts as a rule aren't powerful enough to do this and usually stick to a routine of some kind. If something is communicating with you, don't answer it. Even if the entity you are dealing with isn't malevolent by associating with it you may attract the attention of something demonic. When it comes down to it, you have no control over these things and no idea what you are dealing with. This can only lead to trouble. I'd cut off all communication and get blessed. Now I know that some people are prone to seeing ghosts but seeing a ghost and calling spirits are TWO different things.

Yes I do think it is a sin because I do consider what you are doing a form of witchcraft. What we have to realize is the so called ghosts you are willingly communicating with are all evil spirits called familiar spirits. These spirits know how to draw us into them by making us think they are deceased family members or just harmless souls that haven't moved on. I know there is no such thing as ghosts because God tells us" It is appointed unto a man to die once and then the judgment". God never said anything about a person dying and then their spirit being allowed to roam and communicate with the living. This is a trick of the enemy . Satan wants you to think it's just harmless spirits , but I am telling you they are more than that. Please do not interact with these spirits and ask God to forgive you for entertaining them and also pray for the covering of God over you. God bless you.

A sin is a violation of your pact with the God of Abraham. If you are neither Jewish, Christian, or Muslim you have no such pact and nothing you can do is a sin. It can be wrong, even evil and reprehensible, but it is not, by definition a sin. Communications with ghosts is necromancy, the Divination of the Dead, which is forbidden by the Bible, so if you are of a Bible related faith, then, yes, it is a sin.

Lets put it this way...if it was a grandparent that passed away and wished to come though to you in some way, would you really think that to be a "sin"? I mean, if "ghosts" are real, they are only people (or other animals). If it would be a bad thing to have the chance to communicate with a loved one, that would be really sad.

Someone on here mentioned what Saul did.... First, it is clear that what Saul did in consulting a spirit medium was a violation of God’s law. Both spirit mediums and those consulting them were judged guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:6, 27) God’s law to Israel stated: “Do not turn yourselves to the spirit mediums, and do not consult professional foretellers of events, so as to become unclean by them.” (Leviticus 19:31) “When you are entered into the land that Jehovah your God is giving you, you must not learn to do according to the detestable things of those nations. There should not be found in you . . . anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead.”—Deuteronomy 18:9-11; Isaiah 8:19, 20.

If spirit mediums could actually get in touch with the dead, why, then, did God’s law label their practice as something “unclean,” “detestable” and deserving of death? If the communication were with dead loved ones, for example, why would a God of love designate this as a terrible crime? Why would he want to deprive the living of getting some comforting messages from the dead? Does not God’s view indicate that people are not really talking to the dead but that a terrible deception must be involved? Scriptural evidence shows that is the case.

Against this background, consider the case of Saul. Regarding divine communication with him, Saul acknowledged: “God himself has departed from me and has answered me no more, either by means of the prophets or by dreams; so that I am calling you [Samuel] to let me know what I shall do.” (1 Samuel 28:15) Obviously, God would not allow a spirit medium to get around this divine cutoff of communication by getting in touch with a dead prophet and having him deliver a message from God to Saul. Then, too, during the latter part of his life, Samuel himself, a faithful prophet of God, had ceased to have any dealings whatsoever with Saul. Would it not be unreasonable, therefore, to conclude that Samuel was willing to speak with Saul by means of a spirit medium, an arrangement that was condemned by God?
Its a sin. A definite sin. Quit doing it. Pray to God for forgiveness and help in overcoming this problem. Beg for help and pray for strength, you'll need it.

Does that help??

All the encounters with waking spirits ( those I encountered while I was awake) that I can remember were demonic. Don't let them touch/enter you. Angels in the Bible weren't subtle. They were very present unless they were hiding. Then no man could see them.

I have an inkling that you have some defending to do. They are not your friends. Start reading from the Bible, The gospels, Ephesians 6, and read it like you know it's true.

Get them away from you. God can do the getting away part. You stay in faith.

If you are not saved you may be totally screwed.

there is just one genuine faith. Ghost are no longer actual yet depraved spirits are. using crosses, holy water, sage, and different rituals are a sort of spiritism and could be refrained from. you do no longer want such issues to worship God. organic worship is what's important to God no longer each and all the little trinkets that folk choose for to apply.

If you're Jewish or Christian then it could be - because when Saul went to the witch of Endor to summon the prophet Samuel, well Samuel wasn't too happy about it. It's somewhere in the Bible you'll find it.
