Do Catholics listen to Christian music? I know most of it is performed by protestant artists, and didn't know if it had a large catholic following, or if there were catholic music artists, or a catholic opinion on secular music? Thanks, I'm just curious. (c:

Please notice-- this is not one of those "Catholics are not Christians" questions, I just had a question about musical preferences.

Yes, many Catholics listen to both Catholic and other Christian music.
Here is a sample of some Catholic music: http://www.spiritandsong.com/

I am Catholic and I listen to almost entirely secular music. I listen to some sacred music too - old Latin mass settings, Gregorian chant, etc. - but I don't get into the whole genre where Christians make Christian songs that sound like regular songs except with Christian lyrics. I focus on making sure the hymns I hear on Sunday aren't completely horrible.

As a Catholic.... A) Not being there.. I do not know precisely WHAT the Priest's factor was once. Perhaps it was once overly simplified or incorrectly summarized. I'd uncover it quite tough for even a liberal Priest to educate that from the pulpit, however no longer being there, I cannot say for certain. One must continually deliver a character the advantage of the doubt till all different factors had been exhausted. Since you heard it second hand, attempt to preserve that during brain that there are tons of option factors. B) IF what your brother advised you is right and there's no different solution to interpret it and the Priest at a few factor clarifies his role and says "No that is quite what I supposed to mention" -- then what you will have is a million Priest who is not following the lessons of the Catholic church. As Paul Cyp mentioned.. each tremendous institution goes to have a few. The KEY is to your Brother to ship an e mail or write a letter to the Bishop....the Priest's boss, the character who truthfully is charged with making sure that Catholic teachings are taught to the congregations inside his Dioceses. Just like if a million trainer tells you some thing that's unsuitable, that does not difference fact... so too if a Priest says some thing that's towards the lessons of the Catholic church, does that NOT difference the lessons of the Catholic church. Here is the precise Teachings of the Catholic Church from the Catechism, the compendulum of Catholic Teachings: 2353. "Fornication is carnal union among an single guy and an single girl. It is gravely opposite to the respect of men and women and of human sexuality that is obviously ordered to the well of spouses and the iteration and schooling of kids. Moreover, this is a grave scandal whilst there's corruption of the younger." 2396. "Among the sins gravely opposite to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and gay practices." If there's ever a war of words among what a Priest, Bishop, Cardinal, or man or woman Catholic says and the precise teachings of the Church expressed within the Catechism.. the Catechism of the Catholic church continually trumps or wins out. ::EDIT::: Again.. we have got to factor out that Priests aren't infallible. One must no longer instantly and readily flee from their religion readily when you consider that they pay attention some thing they do not like or that at the floor does not jive with their possess fallible and imperfect interpretation of the bible. I might HOPE that the character must FIRST confirm if that is truthfully the lessons in their religion or only one character's mistakes. Secondly, they must confirm the precise teachings in their religion and notice if they've any problems with that. Lastly, if their possess interpretation of the bible conflicts, then they must search an evidence from their religion as to how their instructing aligns with the bible. If there's NO rationalization, then take into account leaving. If there's an evidence, then take into account that your interpretation could also be the only in mistakes.

I personally do not listen to "Christian" music because I prefer harder rock and pop.
I do know that there are some churches I have attended in the past that banned the use of music composed by non-Catholics. I was very surprised to see that...since all that should matter is that they use Christian hymns, etc.

I know of Catholics as well as Christians, Muslims and others who listen to all types of music including Cult music - they manage to do it because they don't look at the offensive angle of it but the musical angle of it.
