Atheists say Christians are close-minded because we refuse to believe there is no God and take up their belief. Yet atheists refuse to believe there is a God and take up our beliefs. Isn't that as close-minded as they say Christians are? And can't we all get along without shoving each other's beliefs down our throats and condemning the "other side"?

Both are like two opposing poles. None of them will ever agree that they are both close minded unless both will learn to respect one another. If we can find the answer in between, perhaps we will find that both have the clue in discovering reality from the truth.

I don't know about Christians, because I've never been one. But I've found atheists to be quite open-minded to the belief of a god. I wanted to believe there was a god, I tried to believe there was a god, I read the Bible looking for a god, but I was unsuccessful in finding one. There wasn't enough evidence for me to believe in it. I'm quite open-minded to the idea of a god. If there were any unbiased evidence to support the existence of a god, I would probably believe. I am always open to the possibility that a god could come swooping down from the sky and do godly acts. But I'm not going to believe in something on faith alone. I think most atheists say that Christians are closed-minded not due to their belief in God, but because of their actions against homosexuals, women, and people of different religions.

Do agnostics do anything to you, or is it just the atheists?

My problem with Christians is you can't get a straight answer. You guys need to get together and decide what is truth, and what is not. Every time I ask a basic question, I get so many different answers. Example, I asked about Jesus and God. Some said they were the same, and also there was some ghost there too. Some said they were different.

Then, I asked if Jesus walked with dinosaurs. Most say not, but some say yes, and there is proof. Then, apparently, the dinosaurs washed away in the flood. Why did Moses not save them? He was supposed to have saved 2 of EVERYTHING, as far as I know. These answers need to get on the same page. I will continue to ask these types of questions until I see a consensus (read this as "I will continue to ask these questions forever!")

I don't have a problem with Christians. If I call someone close-minded it is when they refuse to consider that just because they are Christian it doesn't mean everyone has to live by their beliefs, they put down homosexuals, single parenting, couples who have children without getting married, etc. I go by the logic that if they aren't hurting anyone who cares. I also call someone close-minded when they insist that I have no morals because I don't believe in a God, or they insist someone else doesn't because they are a different religion. I don't shove my beliefs down any ones throat, I am married to a Christian.

Keep in mind that I am NOT an atheist, or a Christian; religious people (not just Christians; ALL religions) tend to be more likely to reject new information if it contradicts their belief structure, often defying all logic to do so. I have actually had people tell me that God planted the fossils of very ancient life, like dinosaurs, and strata layers in order to test the faithful. Many atheists (but not all; some are equally illogical) are more willing to modify their beliefs based on new data. I think if proof (other than 'proof' like "The Bible/Koran/Talmud/Etc. says so") of Gods existence was to be produced, many atheists would modify their stance. I think if, on the other hand, proof of Gods non-existence was to be found, most religious people would NOT modify theirs.

I'd say that a lot of religious people are close-minded, no matter the religion. When your beliefs are strong, it is easy to be close-minded - it's easier to justify your own beliefs that way.

My message to you and everyone is this: don't worry about it - people will always be people - believe what you want but try to stay open to the fact that there are many many beliefs out there - and diversity is what makes the world interesting and colorful!

I asked a similar question a while back. Personally, to me, someone saying they are an Atheist means to me that they have closed their mind off to things like miracles and anything that cant be explained scientifically. Closed their minds off to eternity whether it be good or bad. I guess they feel Christians are closed minded to... ummmm not sure what exactly they think Christians are closed minded to but they say it a lot anyway :)

Yes, you would think we could remember we are all part of the human family. Christians just happen to remember that we are children of God as well. Have a gummy bear.

We are all closed minded in our own way and are arrogant about our own beliefs - after all we all do believe in something when it comes to anything.
