This is sadly not all that rare. The ideal way to give vaccines is ONE at a time with at least a week inbetween, two is better. Its hard on the immune system to be suddenly bombarded with these combo shots that go as high as 7 in 1. The vaccine is a small amount of that disease or virus. This makes the immune system work very hard and some dogs bodies cant handle it. The vets do it this way anyway because its quick and easy and taken care of in one trip although if you ask them they will tell you its better to split them up.
Im very sorry for your loss.

This is very rare! However there is that 1 in a million factor. As well as error. The vaccination bottle could be mixed wrong (very, very seldom happens!) Your pet could of had a allergic reaction to the vaccination. Or other reasons. The big things I would concentrate on for this issue would be: One what did the vet do afterwords once they new? Correct answer should be that they took the vaccination bottle or batch, immediately pulled it from use and sent it off for testing to verify (usually Iowa State Vet Med) then, if you wanted, an autopsy would help to eliminate other options or possibilities. I know the whole situation is hard, however this is life and it does happen and is most unfortunate when it does! My sympathies are with you!

I am sorry for your loss. That's terrible. Although rare, they can have an allergic reaction to vaccines. Different vets use different combinations of vaccines. I understand you must be devastated. Did your dog have any pre-existing illnesses? Don't let this tragedy change the way you think about vaccines. Dobermans and Rottweilers are more likely to contract parvo than other breeds. Was a necropsy performed? Again, I am sorry for your loss.

I have heard of it, as it happened to a friend's Rottweiler. The vet told her it was anaphylactic shock..a sudden, violent reaction to the vaccine. The brand of vaccine shouldn't matter..although the one used then was also Fort Dodge...I have used Fort Dodge for most vaccinations, as it is the one most trusted by vets.

first let me say that i am so very sorry for your loss....it must be terrible to have your pet pass away like that. everyone says to watch your dog right away after he's had his shots. it is very possible that a reaction can occur. i've heard quite a few stories similar to this, all revolving around a vaccination. the vet gave your doberman two shots at the same time? it could have been an overdose---but i'm not sure.
again, i'm so sorry for your loss......
