Many religious groups have very strong moral beliefs that may be at odds with the beliefs of society in general. By getting their toe in the government door, they hope to establish their moral code on all of us. If THEY think it is wrong to do a certain thing, then it MUST be wrong, and has to be stopped. That is really what the 10 Commandments ruckus is all about, they want that toe in the door.
And Adyghe1985, yes, North Korea is an atheist regime. Iran is a theocracy. You want to move there? All extremes are bad, not just the one you don't like.

Sanstheism,
I think that you have it a little mixed up. Let me try this.
The founders of our country brough god in with them. As I understand it, they were for the most part, "God fearing men." They wee not afraid to make references to God in their writings and the government documents that they cooked up.
What they did not want to happen, is the nightmare that a State Church brought into a country. There men lived in the 1700's. They had the most recent example of how bad a State Church could get with the Anglican Church. They also had many, many years of examples, all well known, of the Roman Catholic Church and their atrocities for centuries and centuries. The Reformation was but a counter to that State Church. And the blood that ws shed by them is notable also.
To avoid all of that, our founding fathers devised a part of Law that said that there would be no such State Church. Thus avioding those bloody awful outbreaks of terrible violence.
It did not mean that the individual could not pray in a school. The founding fathers prayed in their offices, with their families, on any given occasion, ANYWHERE they felt the need WITHOUT having the governemnt to tell them that they couldn't. UNLIKE now.
So thhe twist of the Liberals in America, those that lie about, and confuse history, have bastardized the intent of the founding fathers.
No government should tell anyone, when to pray, and when not to pray. No government has that right. Or at least think that they did.

Okay, dude, first of all, change your avatar. He looks like a twig eating hippie on a bad acid trip who just pissed himself in front of everyone he knows.
That being said, we separate church and state to avoid religious fanatics from taking control of our government, and by extension, our society, and doing very bad things to those who don't subscribe to their beliefs. The founding fathers were, for the most part, Christians, whether or not they went to church every Sunday, as are the majority of people living in America at present. THAT's why religion pervades every aspect of our society, not because of some small, insecure group of people who are pushing their beliefs onto everyone else. The fact of the matter is that most people need a structured moral belief system to get through life. Without one, many people would simply self-destruct as a result of idiotic decisions, and they would take those around them as well. Think about it like this: at least you know where the majority of people are coming from.... it makes them easier to predict.
One more thing, you spelled 'grammar' wrong.

bc if a person is religious or spirtual it is part of who they are. It's not something you can turn on and off like a switch. Steps were taken by our founding fathers to avoid any type of religious belief to be forced on individuals by the government. That the US government would not "tell" the people what the have to believe. That is what "separation of church and state meant" Not physicall destroy and remove any and all references to God in public schools, gov. property, memorials etc. It scares me the people much brighter then me run our nation and make these types of stupid decisions which is tearing our moral fabric to pieces. JD Christians are being attack in our nation daily- I don't agree with your statement. It's other religious groups that we seem to have tolerance for but for christians the godless liberals would like to see all religion gone from society. I socialist government does not have it's citizen believing in a religious faith and that is the slippery road we are headed.Unless by some miracle, We fight this war on terror with every ounce of our military arsinal and eniolate our enemies around the world.

Read the constitution of the United States even it had God in it. You can't separate the two because God created it all. If you knew someone in your family was going to die from eating the wrong foods, would you ignore it? No, not if you loved them. You would want to save them. Sharing the gospel is about telling others you know and love the truth so that they might not suffer in death. This government was founded on belief in God. Remember ..One nation under God.. You can't separate what has been apart of the USA since its beginning!

I am not here to judge. Many christians sometimes push "non-believers" away.. by appearing to be "perfect" .. we are not perfect..just forgiven. I have come to the realization that I can not force my beliefs on anyone, they can not force their opinions on me.. We live in a free country where we are allowed to have our own beliefs. By our gov't limiting "10 commandment signs", prayer in school, questioning the saying "one nation under god"in the pledge..ect...this crushes our freedom that our forefathers faught for.. as i see that you do not want to here "god" and jesus.. ect. we do not want to hear you say it shouldn't be allowed.. This is a free country, I can't say that I "respect" people who don't respect and honor my god,..however, I can say that I understand they want there own beliefs put out there as well. But .. our country is a democracy.. people faught for us to become a democracy.. and in democracy majority rules, and as of today there are more people who honor the lord then dismiss him..so until the "athiest" views outnumber those that honor him, i say why change anything? I just pray for the souls of the lost, because i can not grasp my "small" mind arround how physically hot fire feels when it totally consumes your body and only gets hotter and hotter, and one never becomes immune to it..how hot is hell? 832 F. Revelation 21:8 “Says that there are lakes of sulfur in Hell”. However, under extreme pressure Hell could get hotter!
we are not put here just to go through all of lives struggles just to die off and be forgotten.. we are hear to honor our god and make the right decision, and then be judged by the lord and enjoy a world that is greater then any of us have ever been able to experience with out heart-ache, death, illness, problems.. just pure "heaven"..why wouldn't any one want this? why risk it by being "hardheaded"..
our country was founded on religion.. the reason for our existense is so we could practice christianity rather then being limited by the roman catholic church. The Puritans wanted to practice christianity without being limited to their "stricter" beliefs. I wish people would remember this "small" detail..that we learned back in junior high. I truely hope that something in your life will happen so that it will change your mind before it's too late.

Wow, so many people who've answered your question are extremists. And, they can't write.
Sanstheism, you do know I oppose theocracy of every sort. I have spoken out against it on many occasions on this website, yet find so many Christian hypocrites. For one thing, they find the theocracy in Iran and many other Muslim countries are evil things, which they mostly are, if not always, yet they think your American government should be run on Christian values and morals.
People: separation of State and Church, will you, now?

That was hypocritical too...they had a prayer before the first congress.
The position was that they wouldn't endorse any religion...keep it nondenominational at worst, non-existent at best.
This country was founded in large part, by people who were told they couldn't believe what they wanted. So they got on a boat, and told the people here not to believe what they were...convert or lose everything...why are people so surprised.
You've got alot of people of faith in public office. Like it or not, they're going to follow their conscience.

Usualy it is eather the fear that if their religion does not have a say in government they will become persicuted or at the least have some of their religious rights abridged. There are others who believe that such interactions with bless the countre (or lack of with curse it).

Well. The majority of the population says it will be this way. The minority will not change it. It's called Politics.
Your real beef is with your congressman/woman not Christians.
Be sure you direct your call to the appropriate people, you may be put on HOLD.
