Most people who call themselves Christian only do so due to a cultural experience of marginal Christianity experienced in childhood and not out of a personal lifestyle and spritual committment. It is the comfortable thing to say and is more accepted than "I don't have a religion" or "I don't care" - as most the population is, in reality, agnostic in actual belief.
Nowadays it is the PC thing to bash Christians as they are the "safe" group to bash. But then this really isn't new, as ever since the early Christian church established itself it has been continually persecuted by governments and other religions, and even more so by people with heretical beliefs who left the Church and declared they had their own "better" "Christian" churh.

No, Christians get bashed on this site because the ignorant ones answer things with thousands of lines of scripture that has no meaning to the question asked, and they continue to order people to change their lifestyle and religion to fit into the narrow little box the ignorant christian thinks they should live in.

Those that do are hypocrites.
The dictionary defines a hypocrite as someone who “pretends to be better than he really is or to be pious, virtuous without really being so.” A hypocrite is someone who says one thing and does the opposite.
One of the main reasons people have double standards is that they desire to have the best of both worlds. They go to church on Sundays and as soon as they walk out the door, they go back to living their “regular” lives.
"Do the right thing" doesn’t mean to do that which best serves our lustful desires. A lack of respect for the seducing nature of sin has led many to live hypocritical lives. In our heart of hearts, we know fully well that something is morally wrong with our actions, but we do it anyway because it feels good or is convenient.
The people committing hypocritical acts normally try to use some form of rationalization to justify their actions. A man committing adultery may say that he is only breaking his wedding vows by having sex with prostitutes. The ultimate rationalization is the phrase, “I just couldn’t help myself.”

I believe Christians take a bashing as you call it because this isn't our world. I believe that going to church and saying you are a Christian doesn't make you one. It is the fruit you bare or your works in Christ that shows others who you are. But as a Christain myself I expect to take a bashing. Christ did and I am no better. I believe that people claiming to be something they aren't has given those who truely follow Christ a bad name. However that is to be expected because the world is getting worse.

Well no, not really. How would we know they claim it just to feel accepted?
People get "bashed" by some that are tired of the pushiness and/or superiority complex of some others and they use the internet for the outlet they don't have in real life.

There are those who call themselves Christians to "look good" but unfortunately they're the ones that make the rest of us look bad. Then there are those like myself who are Christians because thats where our hearts are.

I think they call themselves Christians not only to be accepted but to give something somewhat meaningful to their otherwise dull and boring lives. If they can come home at the end of the day and say "My 9-5 sucks and we're in debt up to our eyebrows, but Jesus loves us so its all good!"

Yep!
It seems like a safe thing to write down when filling out a census form too.
That's why many CULTS call themselves Christians.

I am proud to be a Christian.
I don't need to be accepted by anyone but God.
I don't give 2 snaps about anyones opinion of me or my religion.
I know what I know.
That is my human right.
