yes, panting alot is normal. You can tell whether it is from stress, or if he is over-hot by feeling his ears...They will be hot or cold, or just right....I hope he is well vaccinated and that you keep up all of his puppy shots...and make an appointment with the vet for his first check up this week. so that you have a long-time best friend...You are so LUCKY to have a sweet baby. Congratulations!
What did you name him?

I am so happy for you. Labs are wonderful. I had a lab/husky cross for 17 years and she was the Best. They do pant a lot, they are very high strung, will chew on everything they can get their little puppy teeth on, I still own a table with tiny puppy teeth marks on the legs... So buy him lots of chew toys, exercise him a lot. My dog loved to play tug, and would generally wear out my husband, my teenage son and myself before she would go to sleep. Puppies are very nervous, labs seem to be a bit more so, a lot of it is their natural curiousity, and they are extremely nosy and smart. My mother in law thought we were kidding about the dog being so smart and learning words. She thought we were being silly, I guess until we were visiting her and my father in law one day and she mentioned something about taking the trash out, and Astra (that was my dogs name it means Little White Star) runs throught the house to the door leading to the garage and sits there. My husband goes to the door and lets her into the garage and she goes and sits next to my in-laws car and just waits. My mother in law was asking what she was doing and my son says "She thinks your going to the dump, and she gets to go for the ride...." We take our trash to the dump where we live, and that was one of her outings. We would have to spell certain words like dump, beach, ride if she wasn't going or she would get upset and howl. It has been an extremely hot summer, I don't know where you live, but some of the panting could be from that. Just make sure you keep his water dish full at all times and he should be fine. Give a hug from me, I know how wonderful those lab pups can be. Best of luck to both of you, you've got a friend for life!!!! Have a good night!!!

I have had my 3 yr old LLHASO APSO sleep in my room everynight sice ive brought her home. She normally wakes me up throughtout the night panting. I jsut figure becasue she gets warm and this is how she cools down. Its like when i wake up in the middle of the night and pull my covers off, then 10 minutes later pull them back on. They get warm and cold just like we do.

Could be stress, he may be warm and trying to cool down, or sometimes can be an indication for pain or respiratory problem. If you are concerned, I would make an appt with the vet.
