At my eye exam today, my doctor said the muscle behind my retina shrank (he said it happens a lot with nearsighted people) and pulled my cornea. He said not to worry but if I see flashes, to call him as an emergency. Should I have a second opinion? My friend suggested I go to UCSF

This can be a sign of retinal detachment. White males over 40 that are already near sited are most at risk. Floaters , squiggly looking things kinda like jellyfiish, increase or if are seen with flashing lights that is a sign to seek medical help asap.

You see floaters - which can be indicative of a retinal detachment (not corneal) but are also very common in anyone over the age of 20. A sudden onset of more floaters, flashes of light, or a curtain or veil across your vision are prime signs of a retinal detachment occuring.
I believe the doctor probably looked at the retina and thought it was secure for now and there wasn't much else to be done but to wait. I think you will be fine, just make sure that if you do have any of the other symptoms, to contact him immediately.

I believe you're more worried about retinal detachment as opposed to coreal. But either way...if you can even still read this...it's an emergency.
