I have a two year old and basically I do what u say you don't have to do becausee of the harness. I watch her every second when we are out. I feel its part of my parenting responsibilities. It may make it easier on you but I feel its a little lazy on your part also. But to each its own. I don't like them because of the doggy feeling and look of them. I try to keep my child out of big crowds and around family oriented activities where a lot of my family will be there. My child is at the stage where she says why don't the other child has what she has and I'm just not ready to answer that question. Am I to tell the child because mommy's being safe rather than sorry?? I just like fo my child to have a sense of freedom along with being safe and secure, thats why I know where to bring my and when to leave my child at home with dad or grandma. If either is not available then its my responsibility to stay at home with my child.

I have always hated the idea of child harnesses as I felt that it was as if you were treating your child like a dog. I have now changed my mind!!! I have a very active 14 month old boy who would much rather walk places than be pushed in a stroller and as soon as he is able to walk for more extended periods of time I will be buying a harness for him. As you have said..... it is about his safety not what other people think and as someone who used to think like that, I believe it is people who don't think about the advantages and don't think that it is not so much about restricting your child but about keeping them safe.

I am pregnant with my 2nd child and my son is almost 2 and he is a runner. I cannot always get him to stop. Someone asked me one time why I used a harness and I replied better safe than dead because he is not old enough to realize the dangers of cars in the road.

I use them when I babysit, I had them when I was little...
Hell, I would rather be safe than sorry. The way the world has become, there are litterally child molesters/kidnappers/killers in every town.
The world isn't in the state it was in the 50's. Now mothers worry about even grocery shopping and having to look out the corners of their eyes and making sure to not leave them alone for a second.

most people wouldnt want to be in a harness there for they dont put thier kids in one and they just keep a better eye on them, you should notice that parents without a harness on their kids always make sure they are holding thier hand, or are carring them, i think that its not right to put a harness on a child i know i wouldnt want one on me

I used one with my daughter, and when my son is old enough i will use it for him. Dont care what other people think they are my children and im keeping them safe, no one can take off with them then. I would not stop just because people look at it funny.

More parents don't use them because more parents are paying attention to their children when out in public rather than talking to someone or looking at something else. If you REALLY thought your child's safety was more important you'd be paying attention to your child rather than talking to someone else or looking somewhere else rather than your child. Your child is not a dog take him off the leash.

safety is the most important thing when it comes to children.
While other parents are chancing their kids into the street.Yours kid is perfectly safe within an arms reach.Next time someone looks at you the wrong way give them the finger.

I don't feel comfortable using a leash on my child. Teach them to stay by you, teach them to hold your hand while crossing the street or parking lot. Teach them not to run off.
It's a child not an animal. I am not cool with that but to each his own.

i bought one, and my husband threw it out after one use, saying that my son looked awkward and uncomfortable in it. i went back to keeping him in his umbroller on longer outings that involved a lot of walking with him until he was five! use one if you like, and if your child likes it. he will like being close to you.
