Ticks look like little flat beetles until they are full of blood, then they are big and round. They bite dogs, but cats are what we here in minnesota call "tick taxis" because cats carry them but don't get bitten. But ticks come in all different sizes and colors.

Tics are round and reddish brown and get very large as they fill with blood. They can live on humans, chickens, cats, everything. Be very careful if you are pulling one off because if you leave the head you can get very sick! I knew a boy who had one in the edge of his hair by his neck. He went into a coma and was near death when they finally found the head still in his neck. They had ran all kinds of test befor they found it. His parents didn't know he had had one. He got well after staying in the hop a good while!

Ticks look like small spiders. They will basically go after any animalwith blood but mostly dogs, cats, cows, horses, and deer are the most common hosts for them. They will go after people though and if they bite you, you can get lyme disease. This is identified by a couple red rings around the bite area.

They are sort of spider like in the legs and then they form a big sack full of blood and that is all you see. They live on all sorts of animals with fur but will get on people too.
You have to remove the head or they will not die. You can get it with a good pair of tweezers. If you hold a match to the tick sack, the tick will back out.

There are several types of ticks but usually are small and fat and dark in color. They can bite us too! Keep a good quality flea and tick medication for the dog like Advantix or Frontline. Stay away from the crap they sell in the grocery stores and walmart. It is better to pay a few extra bucks for the preventative then a whole ton of money at the vet to treat tick borne illnesses or toxcicity from the cheap product. I DONT RECOMMEND YOU PUT LIME IN YOUR YARD LIKE PREVIOUSLY RECOMMENDED BY ANOTHER PERSON. I HAVE SEEN PETS POISONED BY IT.

before feeding, they look like a beetle. after feeding the body swells up to up to a flattish round bug with about 6-8 legs on the side. DON'T TRY TO JUST PULL THEM OFF!!! for the head gets burrowed into the skin and you cannot kill it without the head! Olive oil works well. It is important to treat this IMMEDIATELY!!! Ticks can carry many diseases including parasites and lime disease.
Pretty much anything with hair can get ticks, cats, humans, small critters, etc... It is important to check outside animals regularly for this is very common!

Generally, their body is made up of one mass sac-like with 4 pairs of legs. Its nymph stage attaches to the host for a blood meal, drops off to the ground, become an adult to deposit eggs.
There are two families of ticks:hard ticks & soft ticks. The main difference is the pressence of festoons on the posterior margin of hard ticks.
yes they do.To get rid of them:
1.dip ur dog in basins containing 0.5%gammaxane.
2.removal by gentle traction after applying kerosene or a glowing match to the tick.
3.spray the house with insectisides.clothes should be treated with diethyltolumide.

this has many pictures of ticks if you click on the species you are interested in. Ticks live on any animal they can to survive. That is why people and dogs can get Lyme's disease.
