Naw, you can be just normally patriotic. I wouldn't suggest attacking the country itself but you can be critical of certain aspects of the country. Freedom of speach is what makes this country great.

And thank you for serving our country

Overly? No. Actually, you don't even need to be patriotic, but it does help to like your country (which is what patriotism is all about anyway). Just be you and don't break the UCMJ.

you don't have to be "overly" patriotic, but you have to love the country. your not going to be any good to them if your not willing to die for the country. Theres a good chance you won't die, but if your going to up and run in the heat of battle, you need to know what your fighting for. Just love the people that you fight for, even the stupid ones that don't support you. they will get it eventually

Why would you be overly patriotic? Stick by what you believe, and don't act a certain way if you don't feel it. My son is a Marine. He is patriotic, but not because he's a Marine. And, he doesn't always feel as strongly about certain things compared to others. Go with what you know. And, thanks for joining our military.

No you don't have to be. However, I reccomend you learn about your country. Not just the towns, dates, and simple things like government. You have to truly understand what Western Civilization is and why its the greatest civilization known to man. You must understand the Roman Republic and why it fell to the barbarians, and you must understand why this unique Republic is worth defending. This country is facing dark times ahead (I've seen it) and it will need men with civic virtue, who love their country and their culture to prevent the balkanization and erosion by intrinsic and extrinsic forces in the decades to come. No, you do not.

In fact I feel that I do not need to perform any displays of patriotism as 25 years of service says it all.

Disagreeing with the current administration is just as patriotic as agreeing with it. - probably moreso.

Just be who you are, and don't worry when you get there, we will tell you who we want you to be then show you how to be it. Kidding. Just be who you are, believe me your love for the country will grow as you make friends and serve with them side by side.

No. You have to follow orders and salute the flag, but mostly you have to learn teamwork and "followership" and soldiering.
