It can be really serious. It could be a blockage, irritable bowel, or several other things. It could also be that you're not getting enough fiber or water. Try using a laxative, and if it doesn't work, an enema. If neither of those work, then you'll have to bite the bullet and see a doctor. If not, you could die. The little girl that was in Poltergeist died from that.

it could be caused by certain medications.. mostly painkillers. When I had my wisdom teeth out I was pumped with painkillers and I couldn't go to the bathroom for 2 weeks. Codein is notorious for being constipating so if you're on any meds or have been recently then that may be why. Try any over the counter laxatives.. they take a few hours to work usually.. ask a pharmacist if you don't know what to do. If nothing works then you may have something wrong like a bowel obstruction which needs to be treated. If you go much longer you will have to see a doc.. sorry but it's the truth. Don't panic too much. Many people can go weeks at a time without having a bowel movement and it doesn't damage your colon.

well...unfortunately you're going to get a 'go to the doctor/hospital' answer from me. Not having a bowel movement for a week is serious business...when it's been that long, the fecal matter becomes hard and dry - and that much harder to pass...it can actually back up (much like plumbing) to the point of vomiting feces (rare, but it has happened!). If you were just 2 or 3 days into it, I would suggest stool softeners (found OTC), fiber therapy, glycerin suppositories or even milk of magnesia...but because it has gone on this long you honestly do need to get medical attention..they may even need to manually remove feces to get things moving again - which I know sounds totally horrible, but it's better than putting up with the alternative - that pain and discomfort you are feeling is only going to get worse and can lead to even more severe symptoms.

Sometimes stress can cause constipation, and all of the symptoms you have. Lack of water can make you constipation also. There are many natural things you can try to relieve yourself. Have you tried prunes or prune juice, apple juice. Perhaps increasing your green leafy veggies (SPINACH, KALE, GREEN BEANS, COLLARD GREENS, ETC), eat salads, try an apple a day. Also if you are taking any type of vitamins, the amount of iron maybe to high. Try 2% milk, or low fat milk. But do drink up to 8 - 10 8oz glasses of water a day. If this persist for another 24 hr after you try a few suggestions, please seek medical help; you could have a serious problem. Good Luck.

listen to me.
i had the same problem. it is very annoying. are you under stress for a reason? have you had any x ray? these questions are quite important for you to know why this is hapening. i had to go to the hospital twice myself. do not worry. you might need to go too.it does not necesarilly mean you have to go through an operation or anything.you have to know you need to do something though, and do not just experiment.conclusion: this is a bit serious, do not hesitate though to visit either a doctor, or the hospital, ok? calm down. and don't be afraid to get some help.in my country, the wish for good health is: "get as strong as iron" (free translation)

use a laxative (mineral oil over the counter medications for this problem.( a soap sud enema will also work.)The worst case scenario for not having a bowel movement is that you will die. other things that happen are that you will begin to vomit up stool. My guess is that you may be blocked and will need to go to the doctor and or hospital to be cleared out. This is a dangerous condition. Seek medical help if you don't start going soon.

They're all right, get some medical help. Hospitals, by law, are not allowed to turn a person away, even without insurance or a method of payment. (Plus, an old friend's father-in-law actually died, ultimately because of VERY severe constipation.)

There are many types of over the counter products you can buy at your local Walgreens/RiteAid pharmacies. Ask the pharmacist about them, he/she will usually take the time to help you. You may also want to think about prune juice. I know all the old jokes about it, but it realy does work. Best of luck.

Probably not having enough fiber in your diet or possibly some kind of obstruction inside your intestines I'm not a doctor so that's basically the best I can think of.
