Do I believe people hear voices? absolutely. Would I be wary? highly. The bible describes satan and his minions as the rulers of the air. God gave us his word and his Holy Spirit to guide us in all truth. Sin in our lives can prevent us from hearing the truth. When we are walking in obedience and seeking the Kingdom first, however, I think we are more sensitive to God's guidance.
Jesus told us 15"If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you..."If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25"All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
John 14:15-26
As far as discerning what God wants you to do, I would look to James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

good question. I'm a bit conflicted. I'm more spiritual than religious really but I do believe in a god. a lot of people don't though an if god did try to speak to one of them, It's more likely they would think they were insane rather than prophets, and everyone else would likely think the same thing. moreover, from the perspective of the bible, regardless of what religion you believe in, the days of the prophets is over. I don't think God will find someone so pure and religious in these days so I doubt he'd try to talk to someone in the first place.

I don't believe God spoke to Saul on his Journey to Damasscus because his two helpers only heard a thunder and when God talked to the diciples, everyone heard the words. So no, God doesn't speak to individuals like Saul only implies.

The gods speak to me all the time. Her voice can be loud or quite, depending on whether or not I'm paying attention. This can be translated into -past, present, and future are all one. When a person is in tuned with life, one can sense life speaking.
