my best friend is afraid to say "I love you"
she's afraid to really love.
how do I help her past this,
she has told me that somebody has hurt her in the past.
but she refused to go into it.

I really want her to be able to understand, and be able to love
she's simply the kindest, most caring person in the world
and well... I love her...

Mmm...
To love without fear is a precious thing.
She has been hurt dearly in the past, that is obvious.
Her trust most likely was betrayed as well, and it is very hard to regain that trust in somebody...or anybody for that matter.
The important thing is for you to express sincerely how much you love her, and though you may make mistakes, you will never break her heart.
Time heals all wounds...make it clear you are willing to wait until the end of time.
My suggestion to her is to make sure the guy is her best friend before she gives her heart away again.
My suggestion to you is that you are that guy.

Matters of the heart can't be rushed. Especially when there is pain from the past still lurking about. Until she is ready to move on by herself, nothing you can do will change that. If you truly love her, the best thing you can do is be supportive, love her the way she is, and be there for her when she is ready in her own time to come out of her shell. Don't push her into anything she isn't ready for. It will only make things worse. Let her blossom at her own pace. She will thank you for it later.

dont rush her into telling you anything.. maybe she will get more confidence in time
