A cat has enzymes in its saliva that takes odors off its fur; this is an essential function of the big wild cats who are hunting and don't want their prey to smell them coming. Cats haven't been domesticated as long as dogs, so some wild traits like that still carry over.
My cats are so prissy that if you touch them and your hand has the slightest odor they'll wash immediately.

Personally, I think that cats do stink. In fact, I think they stink worse than dogs. Especially if they are inside cats and you have a litter box in the corner of the room. Cat pee smells far worse than a dog who you can train to do his business outside. I prefer dogs over cats. but that is just my opinion.

Cats are self groomers. Dogs need our help. If you have a dog that has an odor that he normally didn't have then it could be skin infection or ear infection.

They clean themselves.
Your house can smell if you don't keep the litter box cleaned.
