The Bible begins with a statement. "Elohim Yom"
In the beginning GOD = Elohim Yom. (The word Elohim has a plural connotation).
After making that mind-boggling statement The Bible continues by describing the six days of creation. Genesis 2:3 "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it he had rested (a) from all his work (b) which God created and made."
Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it."
This was given to Moses and the Israelites to show them that they should cease from their normal activities and meditate on the glory of HIS person and the wonders of His creation.
There is no evidence that "the Sabbath information" was given to Adam, to Enoch, Noah, or Abraham. Study The Bible, and other ancient historical documents - NO Sabbath rest was observed by man before Exodus 16. In Exodus 16 very specific guidelines were given to the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL for its observance.
The Sabbath is VERY SPECIAL. It is a command given to THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL by GOD. Exodus 31:16,17 "Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant."
It is a sign between ME and the children of Israel forever: for in six days…….. .
Deuteronomy 5:15 reiterates…therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day. What a glorious commemoration of the deliverance of the Jews out of Egypt!
From the above it is quite obvious that THE SABBATH was given by GOD to Israel.
IN the NEW TESTAMENT it is impossible to find any indication at all that the church observed the Sabbath. Of course, the Sabbath was utilized by the propagators of the faith to go in to, or join the Jewish community and tell them of THE CHRIST.
Colossians 2:16,17 certainly indicates that the opposite is true!
"Let no man, therefore, judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath day.
Which are a shadow of things to come:but the body is of Christ."
ERGO! When one is a True Christian they are NOT bound by the Sabbath Laws, OR OF ANY DIETARY LAWS - be they Vegetarianism or "thou shalt not eat meat on Friday".
When a person becomes a True Christian and believer in Jesus The Christ We receive a new life, forgiveness of all our sins, and freedom from the legalistic bondage of the law.
Piety can not be tested by whether or not we eat pork, any meats, or other foods, and, or the basis of our observances of annual or monthly Jewish festivals, or for that matter, the weekly Sabbath. To place ones self back under the law is to turn our backs on the GRACE of God! We would be guilty of trying to produce a way of redemption in which grace and the law are mixed together.
We had better look at Galatians 3:10,11 !
For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written. Cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
"It is finished"
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by faith the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Galatians 2:21 I do not make void the grace of God; for if righteousness come by law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Jesus Our Christ said in Mark 2:27 "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath".
He said that of the Pharisees who were putting the strict observance of a sacred day above the welfare of the people. Gods rules and regulations were designed for mans benefit, not as a yolk to be put around mans necks!
Indeed when Jesus comes back again -during the millennial age - Sabbath will be restored.
Isaiah 66:23 "And it shall come to pass that, from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before ME, saith the Lord"
When God instituted the Sabbath, He specified that is was the seventh day of the week. This has never been changed from Saturday to Sunday. It is a good thing for all mankind to rest one day a week, but it is not obligatory for non Jews to TRY AND carry out the IMPOSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT Levitical Sabbath.
Galatians 3:10 "for as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written.Cursed is everyone that continueth no in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."
Ephesians 2:8,9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of GOD -Not of works, lest any man should boast."
When Jesus The Christ died on the cross and HE was resurrected it marked the beginning of a new special day. THE LORDS DAY - THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK.
Oh what a wonderful day that was for mankind! Released from the Law! "It is Finished!"
Romans 6:14 "…ye are not under the law but under grace"
Romans 10:4 "Christ is the end of the law for righteusness to everyone that believeth."
Our LORD rose on the first day of the week. Mark and Luke and John all record the tomb being found empty on the first day of the week -Sunday.
John 20:19 "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you."
One week later, again on the FIRST DAY of the week Jesus met with the disciples again.
John 20;26 "And, after eight days, ( c ) again His disciples were inside, an d Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said "Peace be unto you."
The Church (Jesus the Christ's people) gathered in the "upper room" and were baptized with the Holy Spirit fifty days after RESURRECTION SUNDAY.
Acts 20:7 tells us "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the next day, and continued his speech until midnight.
In Corinthians 16:1, and 2 Paul tells us "Now concerning the collection of the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even to do ye.
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gathering when I come…"
Indeed ACTS does record Paul going in to the Synagogue to teach - simply because that is where they assembled. That fact has nothing to do with directing "The Faithful" to gather.
Paul said in I Corinthians 19;20 "And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law." Paul now a Christian WAS NOT under the law!
Acts 18:4 - 7 also mentions the Sabbath - as a place of evangelizing the Jews.
These two verses are the last mention of the Sabbath in the book of Acts.
Backing up a bit in The Bible I would like to point out another "telling" verse.
Acts 15:10 "Now, therefore, why put GOD to the test, to put a yoke (d) upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?"
THE SABBATH HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED. IT IS STILL FOR THE JEWS.
SUNDAY IS NOT THE CHRISTIAN SABBATH - THERE IS NO SUCH THING.
WE, TRUE CHRISTIANS WORSHIP ON SUNDAY - THE LORD'S DAY!
My favourite Verse of The Bible regarding the "regulations" imposed on the Jewish is still being used by some "creative thinking" Clergy of today! Colossians 2:16 says" Let no man, therefore, judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day, or of the new moon, or of a Sabbath day". If we were to tuck "Tithing " in to this verse we would have all of the leverage used by questionable clergy to squeeze and control their flock.
If and when some one tells you that we should all be vegetarians or not to eat a particular food please quote Romans 14:14 " I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him that esteemeth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean" Dietary restrictions, be they for ceremony or other reasons do not apply to We Christians.
Salvation is of His mercy- not our works!
Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us."
Romans 4:5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
(a) work --- we today would phrase that - "works".
(b) rested -does not mean that he got tired - it means "arresed" stopped, simply because HE was finished the series of Creation.
(c) Jewish reckoning is that Sunday to Sunday is indeed eight days.
(d) The Law - impossible to keep fully, but a method of control use by "The Clergy".
Historical Information
Worship on Sunday - There is much evidence that Sunday was THE DAY of Christian worship before the perverted church of Rome was INVENTED.
The Epistle = (writing) of Barnabus ( AD 100) "Wherefore also we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead."
The Epistles = (writings) of Ignatius ( AD 107) a friend of Johns says " And after the observance of the Sabbath, let every friend of Christ keep the Lord's day as a festival, the resurrection day, the queen and chief of all days."
"Those who were concerned with old things have come to newness of confidence, no longer keeping the Sabbath, but living according to the Lord's day, on which our life as risen again through Him depends."
Justin Martyr (ad 145), it is said, "But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day of the week and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead."
Justin Martin in his "Dialogue with Trypho, Chapter 47 wrote "But if some, through weak-mindedness, wish to observe such institutions as were given by Moses, along with their hope in Christ, yet choose to live with the Christians and the faithful, as I said before, not introducing them either to be circumcised, like themselves, or to keep the Sabbath, or to observe any other such ceremonies, then I hold that we ought to join ourselves to such, and associate with them in all things as kinsmen and brethren."
Dionycius of Corinth (AD 170) in a writing to the Church in Rome wrote, "Today we kept the Lord's holy day in which we read your letter."
Melito of Sardis (AD 175) wrote a treatise on ----- "The Lord's Day."
Irenaeus ( AD 160-200) wrote " The mystery of the Lord's resurrection may not be celebrated on any other day than the Lord's Day and on this alone should we observe the breaking of the Paschal Feast."
Bardesanes in AD 180 wrote in his book "The Laws of the Countries" "On one day, the first of the week, we assemble ourselves together-------"
Origen (AD 185) "John the Baptizer was born to make ready the people for the Lord, the people fit for Him at the end of the Covenant now grown old, which is the end of the Sabbath." He then went on to write " It is one of the marks of a perfect Christian to keep the Lord's day."
There is much evidence that the above writings were not "doctored" by the R.C. Church in later years by any predecessors of HORT & WESCOTT. ( Those scoundrels, working for Rome, that have given us almost all of the perverted Bibles now in use.)
Even though Ellen White in her vision of April 3,1847 saw a halo of light encircling the fourth commandment - and it has become a cornerstone of the Seventh Day Adventist Group - history shows that Christians, before Constantine, worshipped on Sunday.
I have the problem solved--- I keep EVERY DAY HOLY- and Worship HIM seven days a week.
Strictly speaking the word "Shabbot" in Hebrew means "rest". On the seventh day of the week of creation GOD rested---- HE was not tired-HE does not get tires. He "rested" --- or "arrested" - that is, stopped the series of creation----because IT WAS "ALL DONE", " FINISHED", ARRESTED!
I hope all peoples who keep the SHABBOT do it properly!
Do not flush their own toilets or tear their own toilet paper! FOR THAT IS WORK!
Only walk a few paces to the place of worship (one must live very close), don't drive a car, because turning the key and steering is WORK!
DO NOT let your cat or dog run loose! The animals too must observe!
OBSERVING ANY ONE OF THE 613 LEVITICAL LAWS PUTS YOU UNDER THEM ALL!
Tithing, An exact percentage of moneys to give - Keeping the Shabbot - No labour AT ALL allowed. DO NOT USE ELECTRICITY - because a person had to "work" to deliver that service to you. And on, and on, and on ---
Look up Mark 2:27 - it states that The SHABBOT is made for man-man was not made for the Shabbot.
